Parowan High School Graduation Sees Class Honored
Graduation exercises at Parowan High School marked the end of another school year. A capacity crowd witnessed diplomas awarded by R. L. Fenton to named graduates including Beverly Adams and William Barton, while several students will receive diplomas after completing basic training or due to military service. Principal changes and summer assignments for staff were noted, with remarks by President Glenn E. Snow of Isa College about future life and responsibilities.

Graveside service held for Lowder infant in Cedar City
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon for the two day old infant son of Mr and Mrs Marion Lowder. The baby born Friday died Sunday at Cedar City hospital from natural but unknown causes. Mary Topham led songs with prayers by Anthony Paxton and Wm C Mitchell conducted the service with Bishop Jess Guymon presiding.

Mrs. Maria Taylor, Paowan’s eldest resident, marked her 90th birthday at home with well wishes. Though unwell, she received many letters and cards, and friends visited. her grandson Taylor Parkinson and wife traveled from Benjamin to join the celebration.

Mothers Day Programs Set by Parowan Wards
Mothers Day programs will be held in Sunday schools of both Parowan wards on May 13. East ward opens with a vocal trio and several readings and songs, while West ward follows the general plan with mothers in charge. Transportation is arranged for mothers unable to walk and Mothers Day Booklets will be presented before the programs close.

Kindergarten Opens Monday May 21 in Grade School
Mrs Fae Benson announces the kindergarten for children eligible for next fall will begin Monday morning in the grade school building. Eligibility requires age six by October 31, 1945 and the child must present a birth certificate. Mothers should accompany children the first morning. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Paul Warby at Salt Lake City’s L D 5 hospital on May 8. Mrs Warby is former Flocian Matheson of Parowan. Lt Warby serves in the Pacific with the Army Air Corps. Seaman Hoyd Lawrence was home from Southern California for a few days. Atton Rowley, daughter of Mr and Mrs W Claire Rowley, is visiting from Altadena California where she works in a war plant.

Parowan Canyon Road Oiling To Start Soon
A State Road Commission crew began staking the first five miles of Parowan Canyon road for an oiling project within months. Gravel two lanes will be laid from the post office corner to the Second Left hand and oil mulch road 22 feet wide if weather permits. The work includes a gravel crusher setup near the state pit northeast of town and an air mix coat four inches thick once gravel is in place. Other canyon sections await future post war road plans up to the forest boundary at Dry Fork. The County Post-war Planning Committee listed $20,000 for this road, approved by the county and sent to the state as a recommended project.

Daryl Helferman Promoted to First Lieutenant in Air Forces
R L Halterman reports from Europe that her son Daryl Helferman has been promoted to First Lieutenant in the Army Air Forces. He served as a bombardier with the Fifth Air Force in England for months and earned the Air Medal. With Europe hostilities ending, his unit may transfer to other combat areas. His brothers, Ensigns Robert J and Jerry Halterman, have left San Diego for an unknown destination.

Husband of Local Girl Wins Combat Infantryman’s Badge
