Parowan council weighs airport plans and cemetery work
At a Monday meeting the Parowan City Council discussed locating a new airport near Highway 1 and East Springs Road with chamber input from Marlo Top, Chance Rowley, and Ivan Graff. They note land owned by John A. Evans and others is needed for a one mile airstrip and a half mile approach, but decided to delay spending until more city data and comparisons with other airports are gathered. The council also approved selling cemetery plots along the north driveway and faced a vandalized weather record book, with steps to resolve the issue.

Poppy Day Observance in Parowan Promotes Veteran Poppies
Parowan citizens prepare for Poppy Day on Saturday May 25 honoring war dead. Poppies, made by disabled veterans from Salt Lake City and Brigham City, carry personal stories from World War I and II veterans. The program aids veterans financially and occupationally while serving as living reminders of sacrifice. Also note: Margaret Orton wed Charles B. Copeland in California. Copeland discharged from the Army in February. Margaret previously worked at the Ogden Arsenal.

Iron County commissioners report 1946 auto license funds totaling 18169 76 allocated to road projects across the county including grading graveling and equipment purchases plus appointments of local registrar agents for two year terms. Alumni Banquet Largest Ever in Parowan
The Parowan High School Alumni Association hosted its first event in about fifteen years drawing the largest crowd in Parowan history. About 223 meals were served. attendees traveled from southern California Nevada Salt Lake City and Ogden while most locals from Parowan Paragonah and Cedar City attended. The evening featured a banquet and a dance in the gymnasium with representation from all twenty six graduating classes. Officers elected were Alma Evans president Kathlen Mitchell vice president Sarah Benson secretary Boyd Mitchell treasurer with Nell Bentley Grayson Gurr and Tommy Abbott named as members.

Funeral Services Held For Former County Recorder Kate Taylor
Funeral services were held in the Westward chapel last Friday afternoon for Kate Taylor, longtime Iron County recorder for 18 years. The service featured songs, prayers, and remarks by W Clair Rowley, Hugh L Adams, and Bishop Evans, with musical interludes by local musicians. The cemetery grave was dedicated by Walter C. Mitchell.

Legal size fish planted in local lake and streams
Game Warden S M Clark reports several thousand legal size fish released in Yankee reservoir and nearby streams over the past week. About 2,000 rainbow trout were stocked in Yankee and 4,000 in creeks from Panguitch and Glenwood hatcheries. Hatchery staff are busy stocking to prepare for the big fish opening on Saturday June 15. Washington County waters open tomorrow for trout angling. A late storm left .54 inch of moisture and light frosts across lower valley areas, aiding ranges and early crops.
