Taylor Passes Away at Iron County Hospital
Taylor 68 a former Iron County recorder and active church worker, died after eight weeks in Iron County Hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. Services will be Friday in the Gant Chapel with Bishop W Evans presiding. Burial in City Cemetery. Born Parowan 1879, she lived in the area most of her life, served in public life since 1903, and held various community roles including school board member and librarian secretary. Survived by mother Nellie Taylor, two brothers and two sisters. Burial arrangements and memorial details to follow.

Mrs Hatch family attend funeral of Brigham City resident
Mrs A C Hatch and family members traveled to Lake City after the death of Mrs Hatch mother Mrs Stohl a longtime Brig City resident. Mrs Stohl died in Salt Lake City at age 75 and funeral services were held in Salt Lake City with interment in Brigham City. The Hatch party returned home after services as Mrs Hatch plans to stay in Springville then Meridithy Cafe business in Beaver.

A committee was authorized to negotiate land purchase while another to press county road work. A survey and possible route for a highway linking Highways 91 and 89 over the valley divide was noted, with state preference for Bone Hollow over Little Creek canyon Bare Valley, under an Iron and Garfield counties agreement with state construction.

Parowan Stake Names New Relief Presidency At Conference
At the Parowan Stake quarterly conference in Cedar City last weekend Mrs. Edna S. Hatch was named president of the Relief Society replacing Barbara M. Adams who had served 27 years. Hatch appointed counselors Mrs. Mettie D. Robinson and Mrs. Cecil Adams with Barbara Adams, Florence M. Joseph, Venice Decker, and Gladys Benson all noted as stepping from roles. Pearl D Benson president of the Fast ward Primary Association announces the regular ward conference will be held this coming Sunday afternoon May 12 in connection with the ward Sacrament meeting. At a Parowan Precinct Democratic meeting in the courthouse the three voting districts were re organized for the coming campaign and delegates named to the county convention on Saturday evening May 18. Precinct Chairman Marlo Topham presided with Claude Orton as secretary. Parowan High Band Delights Town at Evening Concert
A large crowd gathered Tuesday evening to watch the Parowan High school band maneuver and perform in front of the high school. The concert followed on Main Street and inside, featuring pieces from the St George Music Festival along with new selections, praised as one of the year’s best musical treats and a stronger performance in recent memory.

Preparations Complete For Alumni Day At High School
Miss Marybelle Fenton daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert L Fenton was initiated into Beta Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi during rites Saturday May 4 in the Jade room Hotel Utah Salt Lake City banquet for 42 initiates followed. International president Mrs Ralph M Stra der and district governor Mrs Louis Bo Spaeth Jr attended. Fenton, Parowan High School valedictorian and concert mistress, later edited the Branch A C papers and yearbook. At the University of Utah she is active in Bets Delta Mu and the music department as an English major.

Auto Accident Victim Buried At Paragonah
Funeral services were held for David H. Baldwin, former Paragonah resident, who died in a single vehicle crash on the Cedar Land highway near Cedar City. Baldwin, 23, served in Europe and guarded President Truman in Berlin. He is survived by his parents and siblings. the accident also injured Carter Williams. The service included military honors by the Parowan American Legion and a Paragonah cemetery dedication. Preparations reveal Alumni day events at Parowan High, including an assembly, banquet, and dance with honorary alumni participation.

Local crew clears quaking aspens for Cedar Canyon mill
A group of nearly a dozen local workers under Claude Butcher began harvesting mature 12 inch diameter quaking aspens for the Excelsior mill at Cedar Canyon. Timber from the Second left-hand road area to Ab's pasture will be trucked to Cedar City plant as operations expand beyond Cedar mountain.
