Relief Societies Present Plays on Book of Mormon Teachings

The Theology pageant titled Characters and Teachings of the Book of Mormon was staged Tuesday May 14 in the Third Ward Chapel as the climax of a six year Relief Society study course. Class leaders Eulala Orfee Florence Benson and Mary Topham oversaw the production.

Storms Bring Total Moisture To Six Point Five Inches

May storms uplift moisture to 6.50 inches for the period since January 1, with 1.41 inches in May alone. The cool weather accompanying the storms has farmers cautious about early planting, as the monthly total nears last year's annual rainfall.

Former Parowan Resident Dies At Richfield

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ann Robinson Poulson, 75, a Parowan native, will be held in Richfield Thursday afternoon. She died Monday in Sevier Valley after a lingering illness. Born October 20, 1881, she married James Christien Poulson in Richfield on July 7, 1902. Survivors include her husband, Richfield, seven sons and five daughters, two sisters and one brother.

PHS Seniors Win Scholarships From Colleges and Others

Parowan High School seniors received multiple scholarships announced by Jean Hendrickson. James Burt Ralph Morten and Lyle Topham earned at the University of Utah, Barbara Bayles and John Simpkins at College of Southern Utah, Jessie Mickelson to the University of Utah photo graphic scholarship, and Barbara Warren to Hollywood Beauty College in Provo.

Burt Places In State Meet

James C. Burt son of Mr and Mrs W C Burt earned third in the 440 yard dash at the state track meet held in Salt Lake City on May 11 He qualified by competing in Fillmore two weeks earlier and was the sole entrant from Harachters and Teachings High in the state event.

Selling Classes Concluded Under Parowan Chamber Sponsorship

The final session of a trio of one and a half hour classes on selling the tourist was held last Monday night. Directed by William C. Winder of the State Department of Vocational Education, the classes drew many local business houses. The Parowan Chamber of Commerce sponsored the program, and the chamber hopes to sponsor another series before summer.

County Commission Seeks State Funds for Iron County Roads

Iron County officials at Mon day meeting asked the State Road Commission for a statement of Secondary Road funds available this year to support ongoing and upcoming projects in Parowan and Cedar Canyon. They aim to complete the main canyon road and align an oil loop with Cedar Breaks access, while TV experimentation and engineering tests proceed with federal witnesses.

Parowan Gun Club Announces Fish Contest Rules

Parowan Gun and Rod Club reveals the Big Fish contest rules for the year. Members must join at least one week before entry, with opening day exceptions. Fish must weigh at least one pound and be caught in Beaver Iron Washington Kane or Garfield counties under State Fish and Game control. Weigh-in is at Parowan Merc with gills removed. Monthly prizes of 10 dollars and a season prize of 20 dollars will be issued as purchase orders from sponsoring merchants to fit the winner’s tackle needs.

Kindergarten To Start June 3 At Parowan School

Kindergarten opens June 3 for all children from Parowan and Paragonah, meeting in room 16 of Parowan Elementary School at 9:00 AM. Principal J Clair Morris notes 46 registered so far, with others eligible. unregistered pupils should enroll by May 24 by contacting Mrs Fae N Tison, bringing a certificate. Two sections will run after the first morning, one morning and one afternoon, taught by Mrs Benson, with group changes after three weeks. Milk and cookie snacks provided daily, with each child paying for their own milk.

Parowan City Coordinating Council reports success in setting a community calendar. Chairwoman Clair Hulet praises cooperation of church civic and social groups in clearing dates and publishing weekly lst to prevent conflicts.
