This article completes a series by the forest service describing Dixie Forest recreation areas and camps. It outlines two camps on the Charleston mountain division near Las Vegas and summarizes their features for visitors.
Charleston Mountaly offers a high altitude retreat from heat at Kyla Canyon beneath Cathedral Rock and Echo Cliffs. The Fire Service developed campgrounds with facilities and trails to Charleston Peak, springs supply water, and summer home sites surveyed. gas and groceries available in Kyle Canyon.
Deer Creek Recreation Area sits seven miles from Kyle Can yon along the north foothills of the Charleston range. The campground offers usual facilities including showers, playgrounds, and cabins, with a large living stream running through part of the grounds. An elevated site allows views east to the desert and the distant Las Vegas lights from Lookout Point at night.
The Parowan Legion Auxiliary plans Poppy Day on Saturday May 24 with local members distributing red memorial poppies to honor World War dead. Volunteers, led by Mrs Jasper Cartwright, will collect donations to aid disabled veterans widows and orphans. Flier publicity includes a Sunday afternoon program with Mrs Edna Hated and Wm Dalton.
Eldon Adams of Parowan was elected student body president at the ranch Agricultural College last Friday, defeating Richard Palmer of Cedar City. His brother Watson Adams won the commissioner of publications post, beating Horace Gunn of Ittchfield. Kathryn Bulloch and Ann Lunt won the vice presidency and secretary races respectively, both from Cedar City.
Notice announces a stake genealogical convention in Cedar City on Sunday May 26 1935 with morning meetings at 10 a m and afternoon at 2 p m. Sessions are at the Cedar Seminary and Cedar Ward chapel with representatives from Salt Lake City in attendance inviting all to attend.
Wool buyers show rising demand as Utah markets push prices. GB Harris representative Flinders says he bought several clips in Cedar City including Larson Bundell Lundgren and Hopkins for 16 cents. Jorgensen reports four thousand fleeces sold at Milford for 16.5 cents and one clip at 17 cents. Only Robinson sold locally at 15 cents. Foreign markets rise five to ten percent per Milo Marsden.
City council ends May meeting authorizing limited grazing on streets due to feed shortages. Animals must be under a responsible person and graze only in front of owners’ property unless permission is granted, avoiding Main Street and schools. Violations permit marshal to take animals for trespass.
Status reports a definite approval for a 14 foot standard road from Cedar Breaks National Monument to Brien Head at over eleven thousand feet. If built it will connect with the Bowery road via Parowan Canyon and offer scenic sky-line views around Cedar Breaks. Construction may begin after weather, with five miles to build and improved parking and shelter planned for the terminus.
The Board of Education at its May meeting decided to discontinue its health program in the county, reallocating funds to instruction and possibly adding teachers. They approved a Cedar grade school re-routing contract for 956.55 with Cedar Lumber and Hardware Co, named four janitors, and extended a pay increase to next year’s teachers. The base ball diamond at the Junior high will be improved for town use. May contracts were largely signed and returned, with a few still pending.

The branch agricultural college list shows seven Parowan students among the juniors graduating at B A C ert week. Names include Woodrow Adama Austin Benson Hildreth Benson Daniel Craward Mack Fenton Mark L Orton Ada T sarl Stevens plus James Robb of Parazgonah. Others from Cedar City Escalante Summit Milford Hurricane Fillmore Salt Lake City Kanab Teasdale and more appear on the broader list. Two Parowan students also graduate from Dixie Junior College this spring Rulon Orion and Alberta Mickelgon.
The West Ward Relief Society invites every mother in the ward to a birthday party on Tuesday May 14 at the society rooms. A fine program and refreshments are planned with a large birthday cake as a special feature. Guests are asked to bring small gifts costing over 10 cents to exchange so everyone receives a gift. All mothers are urged to attend. West Ward Presidency.
Plans for a large clean up and re christening of the Five Rose Forest camp clash with a B A C student body outing. Activities will be confined to the afternoon with some work and a brief ceremony to warn the camp.
Official notice announces bids for furnishing labor and materials to improve Parowan City's water system as a PWA project. Bids due 10:00 a.m. May 23, 1935, opening publicly. Plans available at City Recorder's office or from Caldwell and Nichards in Salt Lake City. Project includes 250000 gallon reservoir, distribution upgrades, and meters. Mayor L. N. Marsden authorized to proceed. federal funds via Federal Reserve Bank in Salt Lake City. A separate PWA project for the power plant is not yet ready due to a pending permit from the Federal Power Commission.
Director Oberhansky disclosed many staff moves at the Branch Agricultural College following a U S A board meeting. Hyrum Hunsaker of Fielding High School will replace Horward Linford on sabbatical leave at USC. Sumner Watch joins agricultural faculty from Wasatch High School. Lydia Jennings from Logan will take home economics duties replacing Reha Johnson. Venice Carson from Logan will teach physical education for women. Tivid L Sargent returns as Agriculture head after Michigan study. Arthur Fife resumes basic science teaching after government reclamation work.
