Graduation Rites For Parowan Stake Primary Girls Set For May 18

Parowan Stake Primary girls from all wards will graduate in a program in the Third Ward Chapel on May 18 at 7 p.m. The event, led by Mrs Fae N Henson, features group songs, essays, a piano solo, certificate presentations, and a speech by Pres J Harold Mitchell. The public is invited including Primary Home Builder Girls and parents.

Parewan youths join area dance festival in St George

Fourteen Parewan Ward youths plus instructors Mr and Mrs Glade Smith joined hundreds of dancers at the second annual area festival in the Time Sun Bowl St George Saturday night. Leaders Mrs Rulon Lyman Mrs Charles F Heatley and Mrs William Matheson directed. Other participants from Enoch Ward and Stake directors Mr and Mrs Norman Grimshaw. The event drew MIA members from Southern Utah Nevada and California with university performances and hints of All Church festival in Salt Lake in June.

Parowan Club News and Tri H Club Gatherings

Parowan Literary Club met Wednesday to discuss Pageant in the Wilderness by Herbert E. Bolton, based on Father Escalante’s diary. An especial meeting is set for Monday at president Georgia Mitchell home to elect new officers. Tri H Club members hosted Mrs. Utahna Heap with stories by Leona Dalton, and Mrs. Fred Topham joined as a new member.

Brian Head Scouts Map District Activities and Camps

Brian Head District Scouts outline plans from a district committee meeting on May 7, 1952. A Court of Honor is set for June 8 at Parowan Third Ward Chapel, with advancement apps due by June 2. Monthly Courts of Honor are planned, and the district aims to register units and boost membership. An Annual Fund Drive moves toward completion while camping and activities under Millard Halterman offer events including Camp Maple Dell July 14–19, 1942, and the Spanish Trail Trek year round. A National Tamboree in July 1953 at Irvine Ranch is sought with strong district participation. Health & Safety and Leadership committees lead training efforts.

Parowan High to Host Commencement Address by Prof Tippett

Prof A J Tippett, a Buon Col lege instructor from Ephraim, will address Parowan High School graduates at Friday May 23 commencement in the Farowan Third Ward Chapel. Principal Walter K Daly announced the event with welcome by class president Kenneth Topham and talks by Jerrolyn Orton and Burgess Robinson. Musical numbers will be performed by graduating class. Public invited.

Joseph R K Bentley Dies Suddenly At Zion Canyon

Joseph H Bentley 70, longtime Parowan native and caretaker at Union Pacific Lodges in Bryce and Zion Canyons, died in his sleep at Zion Lodge early Thursday of likely heart attack. Born June 11 1881 in Parowan, he lived here, attended Brigham Young Academy, worked in Parowan stores, and belonged to local unions and clubs. Survived by wife Mary Richards and four sisters. funeral planned for Monday.

Wife Of Parowan Resident Dies At Sandy

Mrs. Myrtle M. Batewan Hyatt wife of Herbert B Hyatt longtime Parowan resident died at Sandy Utah last Sunday after years of ill health. Born West Jordan January 12 1894 she married in 1914 at Sandy where they remained. Active member of the LDS Church she is survived by her husband a son Glenn H Hyatt Sandy a daughter Mrs Della H Holt South Jordan nine grandchildren four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held Thursday in the Sandy First Ward Chapel with burial in the Continued on Pack Page.

Elder Longden Addresses Large Crowds at Stake Conference

Elder John Longden, assistant to the LDS Council of the Twelve, spoke at a capacity Third Ward Chapel Stake Conference address on heritage present and future hopes. He urged daily prayer and noted the churchs welfare system, missionary work, and youth education as practical benefits. Elder C Edwin Dean urged service men to stay connected with the church while in service. Alumni Officers to be elected at Parowan banquet

Parowan high School alumni association to vote Friday at annual banquet with two tickets led by Boyd Mitchell and Lollin Orton. On each ticket are officers and board members, plus 1962 graduates initiation during the day and an assembly at Tipam. D. Amasa Stones retires as president and will be honorary board member. Banquet at 8 p.m. in First-Second Ward Recreation hall followed by a dance in the school gymnasium with public invited.

Parowan Hosts Tri-Stake Relief Society Convening
