Missionary Work To Be Featured At Conference

Parowan Stake Quarterly Conference will feature missionary work with Elder John Longden representing General Authorities. Calvin Dean of BYU and a color film titled The Stick of Joseph accompany sessions at Parowan First and Third Ward Chapels. Returned missionaries Ward Taylor Whitney Lowe and Arnold Lowe are expected to share experiences.

Parowan High School Sets Annual Day for May 9

Parowan High announces Annual Day on Friday May 9 weather permitting. Students plan campus cleanup in the morning while seniors paint the hill letter. Lunch at Five Mile, afternoon recreation follows and the P will be lighted in the evening.

Parowan women attended a luncheon and meeting of Iron County Ladies Federated Republican Clubs at the El Escalante Hotel Monday afternoon. Guests were Mrs. J Bracken wife of Utah's governor and Mrs. Joseph L Wirthlin of Salt Lake City state chairman of the federation.

Kindergarten Registration Set For Monday

Parents of children who will enter first grade in September must register Monday at 37 m in the elementary school's fine grade room. Eligible children reach age six by October 1, 2058. Birth certificates required. health nurse will assist with pre school physicals. children need not attend. Kindergarten begins June 9 for those properly registered, per Mrs. Fae Benson.

MIA Dance Festival Draws Wide Southern Support May 1952

Strong interest and activity sweep southern Utah for the second annual MIA Dance Festival set for May 3 1952 at the Dixie Sun Bowl St George Utah. Wards and Stakes coordinate to prepare dance groups with specialty numbers from Salt Lake City Las Vegas and southern California and expect a larger diverse gathering than last year highlighting youth cultural development.

Parowan Ward Plans Building Fund Committees

Parowan Ward allocates task forces for church building work with Bishop Karl O. Mitchell leading the fund raising committee and Prea. W. Clair Rowley heading publicity. The plan calls for a $110000 project adjoining the Phyllis Ward Chapel adding classrooms and Relief Society space, plus a recreation hall, gym, rest rooms, storage, and heating. Two-thirds funded by the Third Ward and one-third by stake wards, with per capita assessments estimated around $80 for Third Ward and $7 to the stake's portion.

Patten Family Flee Flooded Springville Home

Mrs Frank Patten and her three children spent days with Mire Jane Legon in Parowan after Hobbie Creek floodwaters threatened their Springville residence. The Patten home on Brookside Drive was among seven newly built houses hardest hit when the creek overflowed at 1 am Sunday. Sandbags kept water from the main floor but the basement flooded and electricity and water were cut off. Frank patten remained with others to minimize damage as many residents evacuated during the peak floods sweeping northern and central Utah.

Parowan High Play Rescheduled to May 7 At School

Parowan High School announces the play Room for One More will be presented on Wednesday May 7 replacing the original April 30 date. Tickets available at the high school office with public admission and student seats priced at 50 cents. Principal W K Daly confirms the change.

Parowan High alumni plan May observance with banquet and dance

Final plans call for May 10 alumni activities at Parowan High with morning senior initiation and an afternoon alumni program. Banquet at 5 pm in the Parowan First-Second Ward hall, followed by a gym dance. Ram Cafe’s LaMar Jensen staff will cater. Mrs Nellie Benny leads arrangements. Lorin Orton of Parowan announces that Irvine and Thelma Morgan Orton of Eugene Oregon welcomed a daughter on Monday. Grandmother Orton joins the family in Oregon to care for Brent 214 and Pamela 16 months. Maternal grandparents live in Riverton Utah. Deborah is the name of the newborn.

Marlo Topham Takes Over Utah Service Station

Marlo Topham and his son Kenneth and Sanford recently took over the Utah Service Station at Main and Ist north streets in Parowan. They leased it from Utah Oil Co which had been operated by F Bentley for ten years. Bentley left the lease to pursue other work unspecified. Topham plans to maintain the station’s high standard of public service.
