Parowan Spring Music Festival Draws 1200 Students

About 1200 high school students from southwestern Utah and eastern Nevada travel to Parowan for the annual Spring Music Festival. Bands orchestras and choirs from Millard Beaver Iron Washington Kane Counties and Ely Nevada compete for judges’ honors with events across four sites from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A large band parade down Parowan Main Street at 4 p.m. caps the day with 12 bands in full dress uniforms.

Civic Clubs To Meet At Fillmore May 14

The Associated Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah plan a Fillmore gathering on May 4 with an executive meeting at 10 30 am and a general meeting in Millard County court house for directors and members followed by an evening banquet hosted by the Fillmore Lions Club. Harald J. Dollinger will speak and screen Its Everybody's Business. Gordon W. Clark will lead the sessions as first vice president. New officers and an executive board will be elected. Afternoon attendees include officials from State Road Commission Fish and Game Commission Utah Mining Assn Forest Service and the National Parks Service plus a round table on boosting club effectiveness.

A Parowan High School event lists a grand march and musical performances including Robin Redbreast and The Casey Peter Cottontail. After the program, parents may meet children in their elementary rooms for grades 1 to 3 with teachers Mrs. Benson and Mrs. Topham.

Last Rites Held For Paragonah Lady

Funeral services for Martha Elizabeth Williamson Barton were held in Paragonah with Bishop Victor R. Robinson presiding. Family members led the service and floral tributes. she survived by four sons, a daughter, grandchildren, and siblings.

Seminary Lists 1955 Graduating Class

The Parowan LDS Seminary announces its 1955 graduating class with a May 15 ceremony at 8:00 p.m. in the Parowan Third Ward Chapel. Dr. Royden C. Brathwaite, CSU president, is the main speaker. Prospective graduates and junior seminary certificate candidates are named, with speakers to be chosen.

Preparations Made To Feed Students At Music Festival

Adequate preparations have been made by various organizations in Parowan to feed the large crowds of students, parents and patrons expected for the annual music festival. Three major canteens will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, pie, desserts and drinks at low cost all day. The Third Ward Relief Society will operate in the High School Home Ec room. The 1st and 2nd Wards will serve lunches at their church kitchen. The DUP and American Legion Auxiliary will run lunches at the former LaRoma Cafe on Main Street. Private snack bars will also operate throughout the day.

Parking ban near Shell Service Station and Iron Co Courthouse

Notice prohibits parking between the Shell Service Station and the Iron Co Courthouse from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday May 7. The two blocks are designated areas for bands to maneuver during the music festival. Cooperation to keep these blocks clear is appreciated.

BYU student Nedra Dalley visits with Dallays in Summit

Nedra Dalley spent the weekend with her parents the Otto Dallays and is attending school at BYU in Provo. Mrs. LaRue White was taken ill and admitted to Iron County Hospital last Monday night and is improving. Kenneth Lewis, now in southern California seeking work, left his wife Doris and small son with his mother Mrs. Nita Jones.

Mr and Mrs Marvin Graff begin building a home on First East between First and Second North with W Scott as builder. Provo visitors Mr and Mrs Simon Benson attended the Phil Benson home last weekend. Arnold Gurr trapped under hay stack at Gurr Farms suffers broken ankle and back injuries. Kendal Gurr freed him. Band uniform fee of $2 remains unpaid by some students. Band Mothers urge payment for four years use. Jackie Ward is treasurer. DUP and Paulina Camps plan joint May 12 meeting at 2 pm in Old Rock Church basement with program refreshments and quilt sale.
