Parowan JCs seek fire truck investment for city

In Parowan a JC effort compares fire protection to insurance. As a Class 9 city, Parowan faces high premiums without better equipment. Estimated losses from last year reach $9,000, and a new fire truck would cost about $5,000, roughly $12 per residence. Contributions can be made at The Ram malt shop.

Stake MIIA Social Planned for March 29

Villiers of the Parowan Stake Mutual Improvement Association announces a large social for all stake members on March 29 at 8 p.m. in the Juabwan High School buildings. The program will include numbers from each ward, followed by awards for Teenage girls and boys of the Aaronic Priesthood. Afterward, attendees will move to the gym for mixers and refreshments.

Parowan Temples Outing Despite Snowbound Roads

Parowan residents joined a March 23 temple excursion to the St George L D S Temple despite blizzards and slick streets. Attendees included President and Mrs W Clair Rowley and numerous Parowan residents. some travelers turned back, others attended the evening session with names not fully confirmed.

Haunted House thrills Parowan audiences in three act mystery comedy

The West Ward Mutual Improvement Association presented The Haunted House a three act mystery comedy in Parowan with a preview for children on Friday. Directors Grace Burt and Bessie Halterman led a cast including Ver Taylor Alberta Evans Homer Adams Lennie Page Norman Adams Joyce Matheson Harley W Dalton Orland Evans Nils Baines Gary Page and Alton Pendleton with Ellen Miller providing piano music. Set in a Cedar Bluffs hunting lodge the plot follows newlyweds faced with hair raising experiences and a murder whose solution brings crisis to a happy ending.

Ms and Mrs Lee Bressber and their sons visited the Benson home in Salt Lake City area, then Jackson County, while Mrs Benson joined them in Victor Idaho for a short visit. Oscar M. Lyman returned from Los Angeles where he visited his son Frank and family, and also spent time in Long Beach with the Hyatt and Decker families. Mrs Gates Bartles planned a trip to Roseburg Oregon to visit her son David and his family, noting LeRoy, 13, was critically ill in the hospital with kidney nephritis. Mrs Lena Benson returned to Parowan after wintering with relatives in Northern Utah, recounting Christmas in Kingman Arizona with Blaine Benson and family, and her spring stay in Utah with Grant, Norda, and other relatives.

Deseret News to Honor Parowan in Near Future

Desert News staff Olive Burt and Paul Paulson visited Parowan to arrange a feature story, recognizing the town as Cry of the Week during the premiere of The Big Cat. Most scenes for the film were shot last summer in Parowan Canyons.

Regional Debate Meet in St George At Oxie College

Parowan High School will be represented in the regional debate at Oxie College in St George by Orleans W Evans and Gen Benson with Eldon Orton as alternate. They debate the motion That the United Nations be revised into a Federal World Government. Miss Maurine Benson and Miss Hilma Orton enter the oratorical contest. Church Authorities Praise Mead Warren For Fine Work

A Friday party for Meade Warren Im provement Era Director celebrated the success of the Improvement Era Drive by the Gleaner Girls and Boy Sprouts. About 50 attended as teachers and the new Scoutmaster joined in games and relay races. A temple letter from Salt Lake praised Mr Warren for his fine work.

Givans Motor Oldsmobile dealer for Southern Utah names Harold M. Jameson of Cedar City as representative in charge of the area north of Cedar. Jameson is a World War II veteran who served in the Seabees and Regular Army and previously owned Harold's Barber Shop in Cedar City.
