Ken County School District considers a pay as you go plan to finance new buildings within seven years. The district has 132000 in outstanding bonds and estimates 161000 needed for the project, with annual levies of about 2.5 mills. Current bonds carry four to six percent interest. sinking funds totaling about 45600 are in place to retire them.
A letter from Wayne Guymon describes he and his brother Ross aiding rescue efforts after the Francia dam breach. Wayne explains travel through flood paths, helping a man, a woman, and a baby, and coordinating early warnings to Santa Paula while noting martial law and communal effort. He assures family they are safe and well.
A meeting of the Tron County Woolgrowers Association is called for Thursday evening in the Library Auditorium to elect officers for the ensuing term including president vice president secretary-treasurer and an advisory board and to handle other business as may arise.
Dr A Johnson deputy state veterinarian will conduct the annual tuberculine test for all milk cows in Iron County starting March 26. The operation is free, mandatory by law, with scheduling at Paragonah Summit Parowan Parowan Valley Enoch and surrounding farms. Cows must return for a follow up inspection three days later or face prosecution.
One of the community’s largest funerals gathered at the tabernacle for Gertrude Bentley daughter of Mayor John M Bentley. Speakers included R L Fenton Jess Guyman N J Barlow Mary M Marsden and Walter C Mitchell. Poems were read by Pearl A Decker and songs performed by Mary Orton Myra Dalton and L J Adams. John Stevens dedicated the grave.
The Utah Taxpayers Association will hold its annual convention in Salt Lake City on March 22 with four sessions starting at 4 PM. Public officials, association members, and taxpayers will discuss budget impact, audit results, bond funds, school funding, and governance.
The regular monthly priesthood and union meeting will be held in the East Ward Tabernacle at Buaro wan at 7 30 P M March 24. The Stake Presidency with the High Council and Bishop rics will meet in connection with Bame Co EL Middle Clerk.
Parowan High School draws a large share of Parowan Junior students this season. Principal Hatch notes 30 to 35 Parowan youths ride the bus daily. Ada Boardman leads as student-body president and seven are seniors. The named list includes Myda Robinson through Clifford Topham with several Edwards and Robb families.
The tourist camp on Main Street expands with a larger cabin by Jasper Stubbs, his first of three planned cabins this season to attract more visitors. Last season he started with one small cabin and believes further growth will be profitable.
County Superintendent Barlow says Parowan needs a new high school facility as enrollments rise with transportation. About 159 high school and 100 junior high students are now served in Parowan, with crowded spaces forcing use of basement rooms and a rented seminary classroom. Plans include Cedar City Junior High expansion, Parowan high school improvements, and a Cedar City grade school building, with location decisions based on future growth.
F L Culver of San Diego visited Parewan as a business guest and may move back to Utah. John and Mrs Brown motored from El Monte to celebrate his mother’s seventy seventh birthday on the 18th. Jewel Wilcock and family returned from Provo to tend a sick father. Mr Ells Bentley laid a concrete walk to the sidewalk this week. The Brown family dinner honored Mrs Brown on her 77th birthday with gifts from California and a feast. Real estate man Wm W Butler visited Parowan for business. Mrs Ivan media hospitalized then improving after return home. Gordon Jewelery Co delegate W E H Gordon visited. Deputy State Fish and Game Evelyn Parry visited Cedar City on district business. Two new Russell graders bought for county road work. Ground beautification work begun at East Ward tabernacle. F D B Gay of Provo visited on business. Spring hats showcased at Maryda Winter N S Gift Shoppe. District voters to weigh a building program on March 27.
