Mayor Bentley's Daughter Dies of Pneumonia in Provo

Gertrude Bentley aged twenty and daughter of the mayor died after a bout with influenza pneumonia. Reared in this community she graduated from the local high school and spent a year at the G Y A in Provo. An accomplished violinist she entertained publicly and was active in local welfare work. Pallbearers and friends mourn as funeral services were held at 2 30 in the Tabernacle.

Cougar Hunt Ends in Lone Hunter’s Death Defiant Charge

Jesse F. Lowe der’s dogs trailed a large mountain cougar from Dry Canyon to Williamson’s spring. After a day’s chase the cougar leaped from a cedar ledge as Lowe approached and was shot dead. The animal’s amputated toe tied to past lamb predations was found, and the 7 1/2 foot body length marked a massive quarry.

Fire Destroys Barns In Middle Of Night

A Monday night fire destroyed the adjoining barns of Simon A and Hurd B E Matheson on their city property west of Porowan Auto Co and the Gurr property. A group of school age boys may have started the blaze by smoking and pitching horseshoes nearby. Fire equipment was limited and unable to reach all sides, with losses pegged at six or seven tons of hay and under $560.00 in total. Neighbors and workers from Hiekarowan Auto Co and local residents helped fight the flames.
