The Parowan ward relief societies honored the eldest and youngest members across the First Second and Third Wards during Annual Day. Guests from Summit and Enoch Wards attended as plans for next year’s calendar and school renovations were discussed amid readings films and musical portions.

American Legion Auxiliary Schedules Immunization Clinic

The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor three immunization clinics for Whooping Cough Diphtheria Tetanus and Smallpox. The first clinic is March 23 at 9 15 AM upstairs at the County Courthouse. Vaccines include Smallpox and Tetanus for all. DPT for children under eight with fees } 35 cents Smallpox, 65 cents DPT booster, 2.00 DPT series three, 35 cents Tetanus booster, 1.00 Tetanus series three. Jetta Rowley Critical After Brain Surgery at Salt Lake General

Miss Jetta Jean Rowley remains critical at Salt Lake General Hospital following brain surgery last week. Her father Ted Rowley returned home and reported slight signs of improvement, lifting hopes for a complete recovery.

Parowan hydro plant reopens after rock slide

A massive rock slide hit the Parowan hydro electric plant pipeline about 2:30 am Friday, destroying about 40 feet of penstock and spraying water 200 feet into the air. City manager Max Hendrickson said damage exceeded 500 dollars while power service largely continued by switching load to Southern Utah Power.

Rams Win Region Six Championship in Regional Final

Parowan High School Rams defeated Dixie Flyers 53 to 49 to win the Region Six basketball title at Fillmore. Cedar City Redmen beat Millard 54 to 44 for third. Parowan, Dixie, and Cedar advance to the Class B state tournament in Provo, where Parowan loses 47 to 44 to Union in their opening game.

Decker Visit Near Salt Lake City and Lancaster Job Prospects

Mr and Mrs Frank Decker were business visitors to Salt Lake City last weekend. They returned home Monday night and left the next morning for Lancaster California where Frank has prospects of a job. David Orton student at the USAC at Logan combined business in this area during the week with a visit with his parents the Claud Ortons.

Water Picture Brighter On City Watersheds

A March 15 snow survey by Iron County Soil Conservation Service reports higher snow depth and water content in Parowan watersheds than 1954. Yankee Flat shows 29.0 inches snow and 10.0 moisture versus 25.8 and 7.6 in 1954. Ed Ward Flat 20.6 inches and 7.9 moisture versus 18.1 and 5.6 in 1954. Long term averages 39.2 inches and 11.9 moisture. 1942–54. The 1955 readings indicate moisture near long term average but snow below.

Parowan High Scholar Named Homemaker of Tomorrow

Hettie Anne Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard Jones of Paragonah is named Homemaker of Tomorrow at Parowan High School. She earned top marks on a homemaking aptitude exam and will receive a golden pin cookbooks for her school and a chance to name Utahs candidate for Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Utahs state winner enters a national finals among 33 schools. A 1356 participant total supported by General Mills, with a 1500 dollar scholarship for the state winner and a trip to Washington DC Williamsburg VA and Philadelphia. All-American winner scholarship rises to 5000 dollars and Britannica set goes to her school. Parowan City Bans Pinball Machines and Adds Water Access

Parowan City Council voted to ban pinball devices citing state law and local complaints about children spending lunch money on games. The meeting also covered cemetery lot assessments, a new caretaker contract, power rate studies, revenue bonds for a power plant, a five year race track contract, and water loading access for livestock trucks near Keith Robinson residence. Fire hydrants will not be used further to prevent damage.

Home Nursing Classes Held At Enoch

Red Cross instructors from Parowan conduct home nursing classes at Enoch this week under Civil Defence aims of one trained woman per home. Originally 16 women joined, prompting two more instructors. Instructors include Mrs Reed Orion Mrs Sarah Dean Smith Mrs Rhetta Deecker and Mrs Mary O Topham. Other Parowan women certified are Mrs Mary Alice Graff and Mrs Jenness Marsden.
