Lyman Named to Federal Agricultural Board in Utah

Parowan mayor J Ray Lyman is appointed to the Utah Agricultural Conservation and Stabilization Committee by Secretary Ezra Taft Benson, with approval from the Utah delegation. He will replace LeLand Redd and serve part time up to 80 days a year, guiding federal farming programs in Utah.

Dixie Deer Herd Count Completed

The Dixie deer herd count was completed after a seven day cooperative effort by the Utah Fish and Game Department Bureau of Land Management Forest Service sportsmen and livestock interests led by Leland Heywood assistant supervisor of the Dixie NF. Forage conditions deer strength and numbers were recorded across Rasok Leeds area Beaver Dam Wash Diamond Valley and Pinto. Results will be presented to the big game board at Cedar City on May 7 with recommendations for next year’s hunt.

Wedding Bells Ring at Iron County Rest Home

In Parowan a romance blossomed at the Iron County Rest Home with Sam Bell 77 and Emma Crawford 64 marrying at the St George Temple. The couple, who met at the home, were joined by family and friends in a breakfast reception in St George and plans were made for their new life together in a Home apartment.

Moisture On Ranges Sill Below Normal

Iron County Soil Conservation Service reports snow cover and water content on watersheds still below long term averages but improved from last year. March 24 readings at Cedar Mt courses show Cedar Breaks 56.6 in snow and 20.4 in water, Midway 56.5 in snow 19.4 in water, Webster's Flat 42.3 in snow 4.7 in water, with long term and past year comparisons.

Easter Egg Hunt Plans Completed For Saturday

Plans completed for the annual Easter egg hunt to be held Saturday morning at 10. Two separate hunts will be staged for preschool children on the school house lawn and for elementary school age children in the church square. Prizes go to finders of specially marked eggs in the older group. younger children receive a small favor. Be on time.

Samuel S. Kistler, dean at the University of Utah, helped pioneer artificial diamond synthesis before World War II. Modern labs report creating diamonds by using ordinary carbon under extreme pressure and heat, yielding up to a third of the test material as diamonds. Lions Schedule Coordination Meet March 30

Parowan Lions lead community efforts to form a coordinating council with a rescheduled meeting set for Wednesday March 30 at the Court House. A prior March 9 meeting was postponed due to other functions. The Lions also announced plans for a litterbug campaign to start in April with bag distribution at service stations, designed to collect trash and reduce cleanup costs, with Parowan City to assist by collecting filled cans.

Local Bey Hurt In Auto Wreck

Chanel-Topham, 1, son of Silas Topham of Parqwan, is reported improving after injuries from a highway accident early Sunday morn near the Prestwich farm south of Cedar City. The 1951 Ford he drove alone left the highway, traveled 200 yards, hit a deep wash and overturned. He regained consciousness, reached his seat, then flagged a motorist to Cedar City hospital. Mostly head and shoulder injuries, possible internal injuries, no broken bones found on X-ray. He is convalescing at his grandmother Amelia Topham’s home.

Mrs Nellie Pritchard and grandson Michael Pritchard returned Monday after visiting Scott Bringhurst in Salt Lake City and the Albert Dalley family in Idaho Falls.
