A 250 strong crowd raised 96 dollars to help send the High School Rams and alumni to the Class B state basketball tournament in Lake City. Coach Waters plans to take Timen from the Ram squad for the three day trip and the team thanks supporters for their strong backing this season and last game.
Parowan East and West Ward Relief Societies will join for Annual Day on Thursday March 7. All ladies and husbands are invited to a 2 p m program in West Ward Recreation Hall with a patriotic theme, songs by the Singing Mother, and a talk by Stake Relief Safety President Edna S Hatch. Evening old time dance to follow. budget admissions apply for those lacking funds. Presidents Bertha Mitchell and Della Marsden also announce no regular meetings next Tuesday.
The navy announced a Saturday plan to launch long range rockets from a seaplane carrier in equatorial waters. The USS Norton Sound, carrying scientific gear, departed Port Hueneme for the mission described as scientific with training value for crews and an untested bombardment test capability, citing the Aerobee rocket and high altitude checks.
Earl W. Orton, Commander Parowan Post No. 20, The American Legion, Parowan Utah, urges six million U S veterans to unite under the Legion to oppose proposed changes to hospital care and benefits. He warns that losing hospital support would harm disabled veterans, widows, and orphans and calls all veterans to join local American Legion posts.
The Board of Governors announced a modification of Regulation W effective March 7 raising maximum consumer instalment credit maturity to 21 months from 15 to 18 months. Down payments drop from 20 to 15 percent for furniture and appliances while autos stay at 33 percent. The change arises from study of Regulation since reinstatement last September and Federal Reserve field experience.
Enoch Rasmussen 78 died early Monday at Wietton County hospital after a long decline. Born April 30 1871 in Varowan he lived in Parowan most of his life farming and freighting, helped form a local freighting unit and served as a square dance caller. Survived by wife Rose Lucetta Orten Rasmussen ten children eight living including Violet Clark Georgia Macfarlane Howard Rasmussen Aaron Rasmussen Florence Clark Orton Rasmussen J Merrill Rasmussen Ada Woodrock, 21 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and siblings Metti Matheson James Rasmussen Ella Slaughter Henry Rasmussen Anna and George Rasmussen. Funeral in Parowan West Ward with Bishopric direction and choir from George H Durham.
A tiny four pound baby girl arrived Monday March 7 at Iron County Hospital. The event marks a healthy delivery with ongoing monitoring and care for both mother and child. Local staff report steady progress and families celebrate this new arrival.
Ralph Benson son of Roy Benson of this city is earning national notice for forensic work while at Brigham Young University Provo. He helps lead BYU debaters with Russell Mickelson American Fork as they reached top honors in a recent elimination tournament. Benson and Kay Randall Ogden were named champions at the Northwestern Invitational in Missoula Montana last spring. Our congratulations to a hometown boy rising to the top.
Parowan East Ward Boy Scouts announce a banquet in the West Ward Banquet Hall on March 21 with tickets at 1.25 per plate. The group seeks about 200 for Scout dues and invites public attendance while a program led by Clair Hulet will open. Don Cartwright oversees arrangements with a committee including Durward Bentley Elmer Mitchell Saunders Clark Ray Adams Claude Burton and Charles F Bentley.
Miss Marietta Jensen of Parowan competes for Salt Lake City's Most Glamorous Salesgirl title representing Z C M I. She works in accounting after high school graduation. The winner will be crowned Tuesday at 7 39 P. M. and feted as queen of the Red Canyon premiere on March 17 at the Utah Theatre with an all expense trip to Hollywood.

Thelma Robb daughter of Clarence and Mrs Lamoreaux of Cedar City married Melvin Lee Clow of Denver on February 24 in Cedar City. Officiant Bishop Larsen, wedding song by Reed Barrett. Thelma wore a white satin gown with veil, bouquet of red roses. Attendant Margaret Angelo, best man Alee Angelo. The couple reside in Salt Lake City. Thelma recently finished nurses training at Holy Cross Hospital. Relatives from Paragonal attended.
West Ward M I A presents The Hauntei House, a forthcoming stage production expected to tour the near future with local actors and community backing.
The Young Matrons Variety Club was hosted by Mrs. Georgia Holyoak with members assisting in a comforter project. Mrs. Lovell Adams reviewed Microbe Hunters by Paul De Crus. Hosts Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Adams entertained eighteen guests for dinner Saturday. Parowan Literary Chit discussed Prominent Women led by Mrs. Georgia Mitchell with refreshments. Next meeting set for Mrs. Fae Benson’s home with a planned lesson by the hostess. A four man marriage will be conducted with Edna Hatch. Virginia Lowe, Barbara Adams, and Margarete Orton joined discussion. A club trio will sing I Love A Little Cottage. Members voted to sponsor a Girls' State delegate and participated in the Community Christmas lighting project in December.
James Roy Stones, 62, a longtime Parowan farmer and veteran, died Thursday evening after being moved to Iron County hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage. Born July 17, 1886, he was survived by his widow Sarah L Robinson, a daughter Helen, three sons Janey, and other relatives. Funeral services tentatively set for Monday afternoon at 2 PM. Also reports a Parowan Young Farmers meeting appointing a spraying equipment committee and a visit from Social Security official in Cedar City to assist with Old-Age and Survivors Insurance matters.
March 8 court house clinic directed by the local P. T. A. screened 25 of 28 children entering school in September 1949. Minor ailments noted and five more children start inoculations for diphtheria and whooping cough. Dr De L W Sorenson and nurse Alice H Barton led the effort with PTA volunteers Augusta Adais Bertrude Mitchel Eva Hobinson and Sera Lowder assisting.
Military funeral for Pfe. Brian Pendleton held Tuesday in Parowan City Cemetery under West Ward Bishopric guidance. The service included prayers, readings, a flag presentation, and a gun salute by American Legion Post 20, with Taps played by Clark Mitchell. Pendleton, son of F Warren and Shen Esplin Pendleton, was killed by sniper fire during Okinawa's invasion on June 17, 1945. A Lake Tribune letter writer recalled meeting Pendleton on Guadalcanal and Okinawa and expressed condolences and admiration.
Junius Rueseh son of Danford and Mrs. Rueseh of this City served two and one half years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Spanish Speaking Mission. He reported at Wes Sacrament meeting Sunday afternoon. He enjoyed his time in Howe Texas and Albuquerque New Mexico, where he held leadership roles and taught. A Parows High School graduate and World War II Navy veteran, he plans to enroll again next fall to finish schooling.
