Parowan Street Widening Preliminaries Begin

Parowan City plans to widen Main Street by at least 12 feet, requiring removal of century old trees and relocation of light poles hydrants and other structures. The work follows Road Commission mandates to keep the highway through town, with Jaycees volunteering to assist as it begins within 30 to 80 days.

Employment Discussed At Church Welfare Meeting

Donald P D Davis of the General Church Welfare committee led a Monday night meeting on offering jobs to church members needing aid. Parowan Stake members and ward welfare committees attended and discussed rehabilitating the physically handicapped through crafts to earn a living, and keeping mothers with families at home whenever possible.

Plans for Parowan Stake Rese Prom

Stake plans a semi formal Parowan Rese Prom with Mis Maids and Junior Gleaners from wards likely to attend. The event is set for March 14 at Parowan High gym with a floor show featuring class members and a dance program led by Mrs. Sarah J. Robinson and ward leaders assisting. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Crimehaw of Enoch oversee dances.

Service Men News About Our Service Men Set

Lloyd DeMille left Tuesday for Fort Carson Colorado after a 30 day furlough with his parents following his return from Korea. He is stationed in Japan and chosen for a 12 week Radio School course in Eta Jema Southern Japan to form a Radio Relay team. Oreon DeMille joined the U S Air Force and will depart next Monday for Texas to begin training. All three boys are sons of Mr and Mrs Alvin DeMille.

Clara Mae Grimshaw Oleen Hatch Wed in Temple

Clara Mae Grimshaw daughter of Mr and Mrs George Grimshaw of Enoch married Nelson Hatch son of Mr and Mrs Ames Hatch at the St George Temple in a ceremony officiated by President Harold Snow. Both are students of the BSA C with 4 H honors and Phi Alpha Beta sorority ties. They plan to finish studies at Cedar City after a brief honeymoon.

Parowan Water Contamination Report Sparks Confusion

A Utah health department note caused Parowan to be listed for contamination, but officials say subsequent tests since March 1 show the culinary water is of high quality with no contamination. Mayor Lyman cites a single spring sample during low mountain supply as the cause, addressed immediately, and the system remains secure for consumption. Water Resources Group To Hold Annual Meeting

The Southern Utah Water Resources Development Corporation plans its annual meeting in the Sevier County Courthouse Richfield on March 10 with speakers including Dr. Irving P. Krick. An informal reception in Enoch and a cloud seeding exhibit are also noted as part of the event.

A Sunday collision at Parowan Center Street and Highway 91 injured five. John Kerr 24 Wellsville suffered facial lacerations while Charles Limb 23 Logan had mouth lacerations and multiple broken teeth. Rulon Nees 19 Lewiston Mel Lewis 22 Idaho Falls uninjured. Mrs Kerr and Claude Harris 58 Iron County driver of the power wagon were involved. Harris uninjured. Limb treated locally then airlifted for special care. Citation likely for failure to yield.

Parowan Woman Melba Webb Moore Dies At Farm Home

Melba Webb Moore 49 wife of Clyde Moore of Parowan died at 12 pm Wednesday at their farm in Parowan Valley after a lengthy illness. Born January 14 1900 in Parowan to George and Exmtelia Webb she lived in Parowan and worked in northern Utah. She married Gene Horton in 1927 at Porcatelia and later married Clyde Moore. Survived by husband son Melburn Barton of Vallejo California sister Mrs Sarah Skougard and brother Orlean Webb both of Parowan. Funeral 2 pm Saturday at First Second Ward Chapel under Bishop Claude W Adams. Burial at Parowan cemetery by Southern Utah Mortuary.

Funeral Services For Ernest I Lowe Held Here

Funeral services for Ernest Isaac Lowe 63 former Parowan resident were held Wednesday in the Third Ward. He died Sunday in Las Vegas Nevada of a heart ailment after a two month illness. He had lived in Parowan until 1947 then moved to Las Vegas where he worked as a landscape gardener for a resort hotel. Born December 1 1888 he was the son of George A Lowe Sr and Harriet Allen Lowe. He married Genevieve Ward at Parowan October 4 1911 and later married Ethel May Beckman August 19 1948. He is survived by his widow nine sons and daughters and six brothers and sisters. Arnold Gurr presided at the service in the Third Ward Chapel with music by Mrs Violet Cross.

Parowan Couple Attends California Wedding of Benson Kin

Parowan residents Lucius M Ben son and wife attended their son James L Benson's wedding to Signa LaVon Fisher in Chula Vista California. The ceremony hosted by the bride's parents followed a short reception at the bride's home. The couple planned a Southern California and northern Mexico honeymoon before settling in Chula Vista until James Benson's Navy release in July.
