Applegate Family Holds Reunion Here

Members of the James E Applegate family enjoyed a reunion Sunday at the Parowan Canyon Five-Mile Recreation camp. About 50 people attended including Mr. and Mrs James C Applegate and family, Mrs Rodney Kaminska, the Mark, Floyd and Willis Robinson families of Cedar City, Mr and Mrs Richard Tatterson of Beaver, and Robert, Garry and Patty Lee of Watsonville Calif. Mrs Norma Robinson chaired the committee with Mrs Gladys Benson and Mrs Lai Lee assisting.

City Commences Road Oiling Project

Iron County road department assists by hauling gravel under a reciprocal agreement with the city. State road equipment will be rented for the oiling job in this County section.

City Fields To Run Further Test On New Well

Parowan city officials and field representatives decided to run one extra test on the new well at the forbay before pump installation. The well is projected to yield 400 gallons per minute with the pump at a depth of 115 feet. City owns one quarter of the project while Fields hold three quarters.

Paragonah Home Burglarized

The Thomas Abbott home a mile north of Paragonah was broken into while the family was at church. Entry came through a rear door window. Stolen items included two suit cases 13 or 14 dollars in cash a 20 gauge shotgun a 3040 caliber rifle two cameras clothing and more. This was the second break in the Abbott residence with prior jewelry and heirlooms taken. Sheriff Arthur Nelson and Deputy Charles Wells investigated.

Lowe Family Reunion Set for July 30 31 in Parowan

All descendants of John and Elizabeth Lowe are urged to attend a family reunion in Parowan on Friday and Saturday July 30 and 31. The program begins Friday afternoon with a campfire at Five Mile Park and continues Saturday at 10 am with a family meeting in the Parowan First Ward Recreation Hall followed by a luncheon at Five Mile Park.

S J Whitney elected president of the Little Salt Lake Chapter Sons of Utah Pioneers at the annual meeting held at the Five Mile Camp. He succeeds Richard M Benson, with Gates Bort as vice president and Thomas Law Fir as secretary treasurer. The meeting included a supper, campfire program, and plans for a new board.

Many seek Iron County offices in candidacy filings

Iron County voters will see 21 declarations of candidacy for nine offices. Key contests include two and four year commissioners sheriff and county recorder. Incumbents W. Clair Rowley and Hillman Dalley face no opposition in some posts, while several Republicans and Democrats contest others across state legislature, treasurer, attorney, and justice positions.

Will L Hoyt Seeks Fifth Term as District Judge

Judge Will L. Hoyt of Nephi filed with the secretary of state for nomination to another term as District Judge of the Fifth Judicial District. He currently serves a fourth term and has a history in the legislature, code revision, Juab County attorney duties, and various bar and civic affiliations. Hoyt belongs to the LDS Church and led Juab Stake for five years.

Parowan Soldier to Return Home After England Duty

Army Cpl Keith Benson of Parowan Utah is set to depart England late this month for the U S after serving since January 1953 with the 32d Ant Aircraft Artillery Brigade. He trained at Fort Ord and was a machine gunner in the 4th AAA Battalion before entering service in August 1952 following Parowan High School.

Orton Family Reunion At Five Mile Camp Parowan Canyon

About 96 descendants of Samuel T and Esther John son Orton gathered at the Five Mile Camp in Parowan Canyon for a reunion on a Wednesday birthday of grandmother Johnson. An extemporaneous camp fire program was led by Whit Orton after a community supper, with many relatives traveling from Cedar City Summit St George Henderson Nevada Tucson Arizona and other areas.
