Honeymooners Call Averts Fire Tragedy

A bread baking oven kept heating due to a thermostat failure, setting a kitchen wall on fire and filling the home with dense smoke. firemen quickly extinguished the blaze after detaching the stove.

Elder Pendleton Returns From Mission to Parowan
Elder Woodruff Pendleton concludes a two year mission in the Central States serving in Missouri and Oklahoma with final months among the Indians of Oklahoma. He represented Parowan Second Ward and the 69th Quorum of Seventy of Parowan Stake. He reports a very enjoyable mission and shared experiences with his ward two weeks ago.
Parowan High Band to Join Pioneer Day Parade Festivities
The Parowan High School Band of 40 members will participate in Salt Lake City's Pioneer Day parade on Saturday dressed in gold and blue. Chaperoned by Willford Young and Mrs. John S Mitchell, the group will stay at the University of Utah dorms and visit Lagoon, departing Friday and returning Sunday to cap their summer band program.

Parowan Lads In Crash After Passing Attempt
A head on collision about a mile north of Cedar City on Highway 9 injured three Parowan youths and others after a passing attempt. Gale Stolk 18 driver of a Chevrolet Coupé and Jim Miller 7 were treated for injuries, David Orton 18 suffered facial lacerations, while Mr and Mrs Schmidt of Miles City Montana sustained serious knee injuries. Investigators Robert Reed and Spike Bybee reported the accident occurred in rain as Stolk tried to pass a truck, striking the southbound Buick driven by the Schmidts. all were taken to Cedar City hospital with varying injuries and the Schmidt car was demolished.

Final plans for the Iron County 4 H Club encampment at Duck Creek on July 29 to 31 are set. About 950 members and 70 leaders are expected to attend the three day two night outdoor program.
