Clothing Drive Aims to Aid Russian Civilians in Need
A statewide drive organized by Utah auxiliary groups and the American Legion seeks used clothing and shoes for Russian civilians. Led by Arthur Gaeth and Dan M. Whelan, the drive runs December 17 to 12 inclusive, collects five pounds of clothing and two pairs of shoes per family, and ships to Oregon for redistribution to Russia. Donations will be gathered at central Utah locations and shipped to Salt Lake City for reshipment.

Funeral in Los Angeles for Jack Reed
Mrs. Charles F. Bentley and Miss Luella Hyatt returned from Los Angeles after attending the funeral of their brother-in-law J. D. Reed husband of Retta Reed and longtime Parowan resident. Reed died after a severe illness. He leaves wife and son Gilbert Reed stationed with U S Tank forces.

A new OPA policy sets furlough gasoline at one gallon per day of leave for service members on leave of three days or more starting July 25. Rations range from three to thirty gallons based on leave length, with no ration for shorter passes. Mr and Mrs Jack Burnham of Los Angeles visited Mrs. Burnham's mother, Mrs. Isa Mortensen, and helped repaint Mortensen residence. Mrs Grace Bettridge of Salt Lake City is in town ten days with her brother and sister in law, Mr and Mrs John P. Orton.

State to oil road from Cedar City to Iron Mountain bids needed
The State Road Commission of Utah invites bids to oil a 14 mile Cedar City to Iron Mountain road using a road mix. About 263000 gallons of bituminous material and 6500 cubic yards of crushed rock or gravel are required. Parowan led by Marlo Topham rallied through a week of canvassing and has raised about 3450 toward its fifth war loan, with 350 still needed by Saturday night. Iron County overall surpassed its quota by 127241, reaching 436241 with E bonds adding 135277. Individual buyers reached 222227 against 219000, while corporations bought 213964 versus 90000.

A large family gathering celebrated the 75th birthday of Wm C Mitchell in this city with events spanning Friday to Sunday. Out-of-town guests from Price Cedar City Evanston Safford and Beaver joined proceedings while local relatives attended gatherings at Five Mile and the Mitchell ranch Ireland Mammoth.
