J P Pioneer Day Program at Old Rock Church

A Pioneer Day event announces a 2 PM program at the Old Rock Church on Monday July 24 inviting all to attend. Older residents may need transportation and should leave word at the Drug store for pickup. The program features descendants of pioneers performing songs poems and talks with a concluding dance and refreshments. A time costume ball follows the program.

Red Cross Chapter Reports Large Sewing Effort

Ms Demar Bowman, chairman, presents Iron County New Harmony chapter production report noting 2347 women sewed 6947 articles for relief, hospital patients, soldiers, and locals of the 316th CTC. Mrs Theo Anson prepared the summary urging continued cooperation for another large effort in August or September.

Victory Singers to Resume Weekly Practice

To Victory Singers, local ladies organization, will resume regular weekly practice next Tuesday. The session will be held in the East ward hall at 5 o clock, and all members urged to attend. Le Rulon Paramore, previously with Sioux City field, is on furlough visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs Golden, before departing for duty.

Marriage of Alice Matheson to Lloyd Stucks announced

Mrs. Nellie Green announces the marriage of her daughter Alice Matheson of Parowan to Lloyd Stucks in Las Vegas on Monday July 17. They visited California before returning as Mr Stucki reports to the Army and Mrs Stucki resumes work at Parowan Merc. The groom is son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Stucki Cedar City. He served in Alaska and the Aleutians after graduating from B AC. Alice is a Parowan High and B A C graduate and saleslady at Parowan Merc.

Parowan City Council Holds Special Meeting

The Parowan City Council met Tuesday evening to address items from the last session and new city matters. W, Orton outlined repairs to the power plant pipeline for one summer or fall shutdown, plus cemetery fencing and hospital improvements.

Funeral Services Held For James L. Adams

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the West ward chapel for James L. Adams who died Sunday. Howard Joseph conducted the service with choir and soloists, followed by remarks from W. Leonard Evans and Barbara M. Adams. Adams, born March 23 1880 in Parowan, lived there all his life and was active in civic and church affairs. He is survived by his wife Melinda Moore Adams three sons Byron M Adams Louis J Adams J Harvey Adams and Lola A Snyder and six grandchildren.

Cedar City Soldier Killed in Saipan Battle

Lamar B. Lambeth age 22 native of Cedar City killed in action in Saipan during the Marian Islands campaign. He enlisted March 1941, served in Hawaii and the Marshall Islands, later with a communications unit. Survived by his father four brothers and three sisters. Lambeth was a student at B A C before entering service.

Two Parowan Boy Scout troops plan to attend the Cedar Breaks District encampment at Duck Creek next week. The move from Navajo Lake was made for better recreation and facilities. West ward scouts, about sixteen, depart Monday afternoon. East ward scouts, also about sixteen, depart Tuesday morning.

Workshop Addition At Shell Station Expands Repair Shop

An addition is being built on the Shell Service station on upper main street to enlarge the repair department used by current lessee Ted Warthen. The cement block structure will extend from the north side to the fence with Dr. Burton residence, enlarging the space previously used by the Jesees.

She showed ten portraits on a table and hinted a future picture from Paul Orton, Twenty second son, who recently entered the service. Committees Named For Cedar Livestock Show

Cedar City prepares for the southern Utah Livestock Show on September 15 and 16 with committees named and duties assigned. Dr IT Donald Bell is secretary and general chairman, with a Cedar City based general committee and delegates from Parowan Panguitch St George Beaver Huricane Kanab and other communities. Advertising premiums and entertainment are organized by Cedar City Chamber of Commerce Junior Chamber Lions club and County Agents assist with premium lists and exhibit coordination.

Next Girls Night Set for Tuesday July 25

Under-16 Drivers Warned by State Patrolman

State Highway Patrolman L. J. Adams warns children under 16 and their parents that driving a car on any street or highway is illegal for underage drivers. He notes many youths ignorantly believe staying off state highways excuses the violation and promises action by police for each offense.
