UP Prepares Pioneer Day Program in Utah
Utah’s Pioneer Day events unfold with a 1 PM public meeting in West Ward chapel, a 4 PM matinee at Alladin Theatre for seniors, a 6:30 soft-jel game, children’s recreation hall activities from 6 to 8, and a 5:30 band concert followed by a night dance. Funeral Held For Brother Byron Orton In Panguitch
Funeral services were held in Panguitch for Byron M. Orton aged 86 who died at his daughter's home in Noguitch. He was born August 4 in Summit and served a mission for the LDS Church in the Southern States before becoming an officer. He married Ellen LeFevre of Spry in 1885. they had one child, and she preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, three grandchildren, and brothers and sisters including Thornton, Scott Orton, Julia LeFevre, Vene Orton, Lehi, Hannah Jahe, Luella Linford, Detesta Ting, Henry, and Laurence. Also attending were county officers and their wives from Panguitch for the State Convention.

Garfield County Sawmill Destroyed by Fire
A large sawmill at Hatch about 20 miles from Panguitch burned last Friday afternoon, totaling the mill valued at 12004 and about 60000 feet of lumber in the yard, neither insured. Firefighters from Panguitch could not save any of the property. The mill employed many residents and was located on the south side of town. A nearby Owen Orton sawmill near Rock Canyon was also destroyed by fire earlier. The cause remains unknown and reports are incomplete.

Harvest of Dry Land Wheat by Halterman and Rowley Near Town
Harvest of 34 acres on dry land near town by S A Halterman and W Clair Rowley yielded up to 18 bushels per acre on some plots with an overall average around 12 to 13 bushels. A section of about 3.44 acres produced 54 bushels from the 3 1/2 acres, while much of the rest trailed this. Grain was sent to the roller mill as some shrinkage occurred from a dry spring and summer. The harvest used a new Allis Chalmers combine bought by Wilford Day and performed well. Planting last August resulted in a strong stand despite hot dry weather, with plans to plant more wheat next month and consider 2 drills for deeper moisture placement.

Bennett Announces Daughter's Marriage to Miles Homney
