Road Civic Group Inspects Main Canyon Road for Improvements

A coalition of State and County road personnel, local officials, and Margoeun Civic Group representatives inspected Main Canyon road on Wednesday to study the best route to the park boundary at Breaka. Iron County figures urged immediate lower-road improvements and surveying to plan the glide changes, aiming to join the canyon road with the State Highway System and seek state aid for ongoing work.

Local Musician To Present Organ Concert Friday

Parowan residents will enjoy an organ concert Friday night featuring Mrs Violet G Uress and her daughter Miss Jeanette Gebrke of Salt Lake City. The event, arranged by the Parowan Stake Church Building Committee, supports funds for a new recreation hall with Ward sales credited to each unit. Proceeds aid construction while audiences hear Bach Beethoven Taubenstein Grieg Chopin and Rachmaninoff in organ and piano solos and duets.

New Arrivals at Iron County Hospital in July

Three newborns are noted in Parowan and nearby areas. Richard Trimmer arrived July 6 weighing 11 pounds 15 ounces, son of Elwood and June Swinbourne Trimmer with family in Parowan and relatives in Los Angeles and England. Howard and Elna Halterman Stubbs welcomed a daughter July 12, 4 pounds 16 ounces, with siblings Cherry Lynn and Craig, and many grandparents and great grandparents involved. A third great grandson was born July 11 in Lakeview, Oregon to Non and Beverly Bennett Clause III.

Iron County Board Advances Roads Weed and Rodent Talks

Iron County commissioners held a busy meeting focusing on roads weed and rodent control. A deathly grasshopper and halogeton infestation in the Pagonah farming area prompted a plan to convene a joint meeting with state and federal officials to craft action. County support for the program was pledged and progress on halogeton control noted with Union Pacific aiding rights of way. The upcoming Eaclanate Valley tour is set for July 31 with an invitation to county officials.

Pioneer Day Celebrations Planned in Parowan Full Day

Parowan hosts Pioneer Day events on July 14 featuring a queen contest with Jackie Ward and attendants Dorothye Adame and Sylvia Smith. A full program includes a parade, patriotic program, Daughters of Utah Pioneers activities, and a race meet with six events at the Parowan Race Track and rodeo arena, under Lions Club sponsorship and local committees.

Fun-Da-Lay For Stake Primary Boys In Parowan

The annual Fun-da-lay for Primary Trail Builder Boys of Parowan Stake is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Five-Mile Recreation Camp. Elaine Adams, stake primary president, invites boys, their parents, class leaders, ward officers and partners to attend with lunch and a dessert provided by the stake board. Activities include games, a group supper, a camp fire program, and a singing session, with a backup venue at Parowan First Second War Recreation Hall if weather sours.

Parowan 4-H club members captured top roles at the County 4-H encampment at Duck Creek. Donna Tullis won camp mayor, with Pergy Mitchell as camp scribe and Jackie Ward chairing the free programs. Dozens attended with community visitors enjoying campfire programs, as awards were handed out Saturday morning.

Navy Enlists Earl Page Spencer From Cedar City

Earl Page Spencer son of Mr and Mrs Lee Page Spencer of Cedar City recently enlisted in the Navy. He plans to attend Aviation Fundamentals School in Memphis Tennessee and then an aviation trade school after completing the fundamentals course. He graduated from Parowan High School last May where he served as Student Body President and played baseball football and track.

Parowan and Cedar City Clubs Compete for Prizes
