Public meeting at Old Rock Church on July 24 marks the Utabh Pioneer Day events organized by Paulina and Elizabeth Camps of Utah Pioneers. Activities include a morning program, open house of pioneer relics, a 2 34 children's dance, lunch, and a Paragonah carnival in the evening to raise funds for church building. First and Second Wards Announce Sunday Meeting Schedules
The Bishopric announces new Sunday schedules for First and Second Wards during chapel renovations. Activities include Sunday School at 9:50 a.m. in the Recreation Hall, Priesthood at 11 a.m. in the Priesthood room, and Sacrament at 2 p.m. in the Recreation Hall. The Second Ward holds Priesthood at 9:45 a.m., Sunday School at 10:45 a.m., and Sacrament at noon in the Recreation Hall. Members should note the timetable and expect slight post renovation adjustments.

Parowan School plans gain fireproof auditorium steps and a 2200 dollar electronic signal system with clocks in 17 rooms. New furniture for two added junior high rooms accompanies insurance for bus riders as finances target existing funds and anticipated taxes for 1952 and 1954. Work resumes with Parowan ready for fall term.

Parowan Showman Thomas Bennett Dies After Heart Attack
Thomas Bennett 74 longtime Parowan resident and dairy pioneer died from a heart attack while walking toward a business street after a birthday dinner with his daughter Mrs Hubert Mitchell. He was found on the sidewalk near 1st East and Pet Street by Mrs Bert Pelistead. He helped found the Joen Southern Utah Dairy Company and worked 20 years there before retirement. He served as Parowan City Marshall and held LDS Church priestly office. Born October 24 1879 in Parowan he was married twice and survived by three sons two daughters sixteen grandchildren two great grandchildren plus relatives. Funeral held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Third Ward Church under Karl Mitchell. Burial in City Cemetery.

Open house at the Parowan home will honor Mrs Isabelle Ward Mortensen on her 88th birthday. Friends and neighbors may call between 4 and 9 pm. Born July 17 1872 in Parowan she married Joseph Edgar Mortensen in the St George Temple on June 4 1893 and has been active in the LDS Church.

Bears Sighted Near Castle Valley in Mountain Area
Edgar Lowder family en route to Pan eultch Lake spotted a large brown bear on the roadside near Castle Valley during a fishing trip. Several reports from Dry Lakes and Sugar loaf areas indicate multiple bears in the nearby mountains. Local trapper Jay George tracked one during a rainstorm. his dogs were wounded in the encounter.

Mrs. Carl Crawford who now lives in Muga underwent biajon surgery on July th at St Marks hospital in Saitbike City. Her improvement is reported as satisfactory. Her year old son Melvin, recovering from polio, cracked a bone in the upper thigh when his leg brace slipped but is not expected to need a cast. Mr. and Mrs Lolin B Orton and sons Steven and Sidney returned from Idaho and Wyoming vacation visiting Idaho Falls and Yellowstone. Mr and Mrs Ralph Gardner and family of Colorado Springs visited the Knights in Parowan. Rollie Gardner, district president of the Pueblo LDS Church, is well known locally and was feted at a Five Mile supper. The Hamsens from Denver are summering in Parowan at the Hernell Evans home. Mrs Hattie Harris returned from Camas Washington and Salt Lake City after a month with relatives. Mrs Barta Dehm and two sons visited Parowan and are now back in Huntington Park. Firefighters and neighbors stopped a porch blaze at the Helen Henry residence on Ist East 1st North Street in Parowan around 9 20 am Tuesday. Mrs. Orton and two children called for help as a tax of papers soaked with an ant destroyer ignited, damaging only the porch and clothing stored there. The family room and house suffered negligible damage. the frame dwelling occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Whit Orton narrowly escaped a larger fire.
