Parowan clerks report ballots are circulating in business windows and East Ward Chapel ahead of the Independence Day dance. Voters select a favorite candidate to reign over Centennial events for the year as the queen is announced tonight.
Local items list Gordon L Halterman enlisted in the U S regular army after high school graduation and is undergoing boat training at Fort Ord California for an 18 month period. The note also details multiple visits and family travels among residents from Niles Ohio Nephi Farmington Salt Lake City and Phoenix with weddings planned and summer visits noted.
Mr and Mrs Will L Adams have arrived back from a six month LDS mission in Arizona. They will report to Parowan residents at a joint ward meeting on Sunday July 13 in the East Ward Chapel. The Alex Orton family will provide music and the program. All members of both Wards are urged to attend.
At the Utah Centennial Exposition in Salt Lake City, Iron County residents receive awards for crochet and embroidery. Olive Ward of Parowan earned multiple prizes, including a silk crochet hood jacket and an embroidered wall picture. Other top awards went to Rebecca Miller, Herbert White, Twilla Thornton, and Maury L. Basten, with entries from Parowan and Cedar City.
Connie Joy Sheverg and Hazen Lay united in a double ring ceremony on July 1 at the home of her parents in Purowdan. The bride wore white net and red roses. Ken Lay served as best man and matron of honor was Mrs. Ken Lay with bridesmaids Carrie Ward and Shalla Hyatt. About 100 guests attended a reception at the West Ward Relief Rooms. The couple plans a Cedar City home after July 10 following a honeymoon through central and northern Utah. Both attended B.A.C. last winter and the bride belonged to Xi Lambda Tau Sorority.
Mrs. Olive Richards Burton, 73, died at her Parowan home late Tuesday night after a long illness. Born January 14, 1873 in Parowan, she worked as a clerk at the Holyoak Store and married Horace Burton in 1807. Survived by seven sisters, including Mrs Mary Berify and Mrs Lottie Pendleton, all of Parowan or Denver. Funeral services set for Thursday in the West Ward Chapel.
Paragonah welcomes a baby boy born this week at Tran County Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Clark Barton. Ruth Anni Dalton undergoes appendectomy at Iron Co. hospital. Walter Talbot travels to Salt Lake City to meet his son Roy for a Yellowstone Park trip. Mrs. Della Topham speaks at Sacrament meeting recounting their recent travels with George A. Topham and elma, plus Fred Topham’s wife. The Lunds return from a 4000 mile Greyhound tour through California Oregon Washington parts of Canada Montana and Idaho.
The American Legion of Pypowun Post No 20 announces Boy's State is discontinued for this year. Only 26 posts replied with responses to the program, and the post thanks the boys for their willingness to represent Pwrowan but regrets the cancellation due to insufficient participation and duties. Commander H. L. Adams signs the notice.
Emma Lowder Webb celebrated her 84th birthday with 30 relatives and friends visiting on Friday afternoon. Guests brought gifts and shared a lunch of salon and veal sandwiches, pickles, ice cream, and cookies, reflecting her generous spirit.
Miss LaDorina Lund of Paragonah and Kevwth Waters of Beaver were married Wednesday evening at the home of the brides parents. A wedding reception followed at the Sehonl House. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Willard Lund, worked in Cedar City before marriage. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs Hoy Waters, is employed in Cedar City. they will make their home there.
