Irowan City to Host Racing Meet Next Week
Irowan City will host a four day race meet July 16 to 19 with seven races each day and a special handicap on the final day. Purse total is 31400, with draws for valuable prizes and program number drawings. Local sponsors include the American Legion and Parowan Cay. events feature dances at Brown Derby and appearances by Miss Donna Jean Dal and attendants Ramona L and Dorthye Dalton.

Surveying for the new Bone Hollow road began last Monday, with District Engineer Sheridan Fiack noting it will connect two major Utah highways for southern counties. The project, long awaited, aims to start this fall with $60,000 allocated for the first link on Highway 91, about a mile south of Muley Point, involving grading graveling and oiling to Lower Bear Valley.

Social Security Field Representative Sterling K Peterson of the Provo office will be at the Parowan Times Building at 9:00 a.m. on July 16, 1947, to take applications for Federal old age and survivors insurance and to discuss related matters. He will explain retirement and survivors benefits for qualified workers and their families and note that lump sum payments may be made if no one qualifies to receive monthly benefits. Applications can be filed with him or at any SSA office for all benefits.

Del Martin Clark of Long Beach, a 1st class butcher for four years, won Ist prize for showcase and meat display at a state awards event.
