Tragedy Kills Three Iron County Men in Hay Derrick Accident

Three Cedar City men from the Leigh family, Samuel W. Leigh 70, Weary Webster Leigh 61, and Walter Granger Leigh 22, died when a moving hay derrick contacted an 11,000 volt line near Cedar City. Richard Leigh 24 was injured after attempting to assist. the tragedy occurred five miles west of Cedar City near Utah Highway 50. Funeral services set for Saturday and Sunday in Cedar City wards.

Relief Society meeting planned with quilting and poetry

Paragonah News reports a Relief Society work meeting set for Tuesday at 3 PM in Paragonah with quilting and textile painting planned. Members are asked to bring original poems or favorite writings.

Mrs Luella A Julien a Dawecters of Umh Moneers historian announces final preparations for a book The Iron County Mission Parowan the Mother Town She seeks funds and photos from descendants and will mail circulars to raise advance sales to cover at least 5.00 per copy The project draws on thirty years of interviews journals and files by the author and aims to preserve pioneer lives and achievements for schoolchildren and residents of Parowan and vicinity.

Public Meeting Planned For Fourth of July Parowan

KD Taylor Miller chairs a public meeting in Parowan Third Ward L D S Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday with songs, prayer, addresses, and a trumpet duet to honor Independence Day. A 0:30 p.m. children’s dance on the school tennis court is the other local observance. Cedar City hosts the Red Battle Roundup.

Social Club Outing and House Party Recaps

The GO. O. Club and partners enjoyed a hay ride ending at Jay Parms for a camp fire, outdoor games, and grilled hamburgers with trimmings. Special guests Lieut Pendleton and Mrs Pendleton attended, hostesses were Cherie Day Colleen and da Gurr, and the last meeting was at the Whitney home with Mrs Joy Orton and Mrs Alta Adame as hostesses.

Parowan Stake Church Plans July 4 Dance for Children

The church building committee of Parowan Stake announces a children's dance on July 4 at 6:30 p.m. on the showal tennis court with supervision and refreshments. Proceeds will fund the proposed stake recreation hall. All youngsters are urged to attend this entertainment for them.

Ordan Recital Set for July 18 Fund Drive

The Parewan Stake Third Ward Recreation Hall committee schedules an organ recital on July 18 to raise funds for a much needed recreation hall. Mrs Violet Cross, a local witchman, will perform in the event with a guest not yet announced. Additional summer activities are planned to support the building project without clashing with the Cedar City rodeo.

Parowan Personal News Notes From Distant Residents

Purowan resident Clifford Stubbs is in serious condition at Iron County Hospital with a chronic heart ailment. James C. Robinson, also ill, underwent prior surgery in Salt Lake. Jesse Mickelson of Parowan is seriously ill with acute kidney and liver disorders. Many relatives and visitors arrive in Parowan including families from California and Oregon, with local residents and friends gathering for summer visits and holidays.

Four-H Clover Club Plans Encampment Outing

The 4-H Clover Club met at Mrs. Jeanette Evans home this summer to learn lunch preparation with salads sandwiches and soups. They planned to attend the 4-H encampment at Duck Creek next week and will hold a follow up meeting Monday at 1 20 p m to finalize plans.
