Parowan Polio Drive Seeks House To House Canvas
A Monday evening house to house canvass marks the regular polio fund drive in Parowan led by Mrs Marlo Topham. Volunteers from American Legion Legion Auxiliary Parowan Literary Club O N O Club Elementary PTA Y V Club and the Chamber of Commerce will visit every home after 6 30 pm. The goal is 1.00 per person with generous donations welcomed. The drive follows school fund raising and Salk vaccine trials with statewide and national funds supporting polio prevention and treatment.

Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson were honored at a wedding reception at the Anderson home in Paragonah on Saturday evening. The couple and the brides parents Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brown traveled from Provo for the event, with the bride in a wedding dress and red rose corsage. Parowan couple to celebrate golden wedding anniversary
Peter H. and Grace Oliphant Gurr of Parowan plan a 50th wedding anniversary open house on Saturday night January 29 at the First Second Ward Relief Society rooms from 7:00 to 11:00. They married January 25, 1905 in the Salt Lake Temple after meeting in Sunnyside. Peter, born April 18, 1881 in Bluff, is a longtime farmer and livestock operator active in ward teaching and Scouting. Grace, born June 15, 1882 in Kanab, has served in Emery Stake Primary Presidency and other church roles before moving to Parowan.

Parowan High School drama department will present the comedy Beauty and the Beef in three acts on January 26. Director Mrs. Jean Hendrickson announces a cast of nineteen including Ginny Allen Joan Lamoreaux George Allen and Beef captain of the football team. The play follows Ginny a top Quiz Program graduate moving to a new town hoping to escape her past while Beef offers to help with American history.

Last Rites Honor Vernon W Heap in Parowan Ward Chapel
Funeral services were held Monday for Vernon W. Heap 70 who died Friday in Iron County Hospital from uremic poisoning and pneumonia with a chronic heart condition. Grayson Gurr led the service with organ music by Mrs. Ivan Johnson and a quartette including E. Ray Lyman, J. Harold Mitchell, D. Watson Adams, Berta Burton, and W. Clair Rowley. Speakers included Jess Guyman Karl C. Mitchell Harley W. Dalton and David L. Sargent. A niece, Mrs Ha Lowe Bauer, gave a Heap history and pallbearers were Allen Heap Alden Heap Ivan Johnson Elmer Lowe Elmo Heap and Elmer Winn.

Parowan Celebrates 104th Birthday With Community Day
Parowan and Paragonah residents joined neighbors in a full day celebration for Parowan's 104th birthday. Sons and Daughters of Utah Pioneers led events with a 1 p.m. meeting featuring an invocation by John W. Bentley and a welcome by Samuel J. Whitney. Mayor W Scott Mitchell gave the main address, with musical numbers from Paragonah and performances by the Parowan High School band and Ladies' chorus. A post luncheon program included Dr L W Sorensen speaking on pioneer life and a piano and saxophone trio plus accordion group performances by local youth.

Parowan saw a heavy snow event with 10 inches reported at the time. Weather observer Clayton Rasmussen noted fluffy snow with two inches of water content. Temperatures dropped to 12 F Sunday, 10 F Monday, and zero Monday night. Roads were slick, drivers stalled on Highway 91, and lodging filled as crews cleared highways and city workers aided residents.

Parowan Couple Observe Golden Anniversary in California
Former Parowan residents Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Murphy now of Whittier California marked their Golden Wedding on Christmas Day with a family dinner and social at their home. Ten of eleven children attended along with relatives from Glendale Torrance El Monte Yuba City Tuscan Ariz Cedar City Parowan and more. Mr. Murphy 75 and Mrs. Murphy 89 celebrated their long marriage and farm work history in Utah before moving to California.

Funeral services in Parowan honored Don Taylor Orton lifelong community resident who died of a heart attack. Woodrow Decker led rites with musical tributes by a male quartet and several family members offered prayers and remarks. Pallbearers included Orton’s sons and grandsons, with many relatives and neighbors attending from Summit Parowan Enoch and Cedar City.
