Funeral services for John H Jensen were held in Parowan West Ward Chapel with Bishop W Leonard Evans presiding. Speakers included Barbara Adams Clair Rowley and Bishop Evans. Interment at Parowan City Cemetery with pallbearers Dwain Decker Dee Jonsen LaMar Jonsen Monty Macfarlane and Ivoe Ogden. Jensen died in Iron County Hospital from heart trouble.

A film on modern 8PM equipment was shown at a meeting of local Ford tractor owners and guests on Wednesday afternoon January 12 at the Eldon Smith Garage in Parowan. Hafen's Ford tractor dealer sponsored the event for Washington and Iron Counties. Orval Hafen, president of Hafen's, says the meet is part of a nationwide program sponsored jointly by Jen's as the local Ford tractor dealer and Dearborn Motor Corporation, with national marketing continued on page five.

County Commissioners Hold Busy January Session
Iron County Board of County Commissioners held their January meeting in Parowan on January 10. The group discussed tax equalization for mine operators with State Tax Commission officials, reviewed draft bills, and planned ore shipment data for 1948 and later years to aid legislators. The courthouse was placed under County Clerk W Clair Rowley for outside use and upkeep, while Sheriff Kent Smith was asked to find a replacement for Paragonah Precinct Justice of the Peace Timothy Ray Robinson.

Infant Terry Matheson Dies Of Flu Pneumonia
Three month old Terry Matheson daughter of Bruce and Adele Bayles Matheson died at 11 p m Saturday night from flu pneumonia after a short illness. Brief funeral services were held at the grandparents home in Parowan with speakers and songs. Born October 6 1948, she is survived by parents a brother Stewart a sister Penny Anne paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Matheson and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs John Bayles, all of Parowan.

County Attorney Drafts Bill For Tax On Iron Mines
Iron County officials backed by County Attorney Durham Morris drafted a Utah Legislature bill in Salt Lake City to increase taxes on iron ore mined and shipped from Iron County. Senator Marsden and Representative Ly man will support enacting the bill, aiming to boost county revenues. Morris argues extra revenue could allow tax relief for homes farms and livestock in Iron County.

Paragonah Lady Eliza Jones Dies At 78 In Iron Co Hospital
Mrs Eliza Jane Jones died Sunday at Iron County Hospital on her 78th birthday. Born January 9 1871 in Harrisburg Washington County Utah she was the daughter of William Robb and Susannah Dramond Robb. She married Joseph Jenkin Jones on April 14 1889 and raised ten children while caring for grandchildren. Survived by her husband and children Mary Burton Laverne Stewart Josephine Finck Mabel Prothero Estella Lamoreaux Rowena Stones and Blaine Jones plus 31 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Also last member of the William Robb family.

Grave dedication services were held at Parowan City Cemetery for Gardello Orton 44 son of Silas T Orton of this city A Boulder City resident and assistant post master he died Jan 5 at Rose de Lima hospital Henderson after a short illness Orton was an early Boulder pioneer who came in 1931 to help run the post office and later served as assistant postmaster He previously worked for Union Pacific railroad in Las Vegas and played with the Union Pacific Concert band of Los Angeles which toured Southern California and performed in Hollywood venues in the 1930s He remembered those days as his most priceless memories He and his band mates earned first place in Union Pacific bands from Los Angeles to Omaha

Randall Wilcox was badly hurt in a snowstorm accident near Sunnyside mine in Carbon County. While pushing a car off the road, the vehicle backed over him, breaking ribs and puncturing lungs. He was hospitalized at Price Hospital and, at the time, was reported as improving.
