Parowan marks its 98th arrival of pioneers with a full day event, Jan 13. A community luncheon at noon in the West Ward precedes a 1:30 program in the recreation hall featuring speeches, music by the H.S. department, stories from former mayors, and dancing. The day ends with a high school assembly and an evening dance by the Seven Motes Orchestra.

Tickets For Stake Banquet And Social Now On Sale
A canvas of every home in Parowan Stakes is being made by Mr. Hugh L. Adams and committee members to sell tickets for the Parowan Stake Banquet and social scheduled for Monday Jan. 23. New Crafts Class Anticipated In Iron County
Adults may enroll in a crafts class sponsored by the Iron County Board of Education as part of its adult education program. A meeting is set for Monday January 16 at 7 p.m. in the High School library to enroll participants. An enrollment of ten is needed to organize the class with ten weekly sessions from 7 to 10 p.m. Fees include a 5 registeration and materials for plastics and leathercraft are available for purchase.

Poison Oats Kill Saddle Horses
Mr Arch Benson reported the loss of his 3 year old saddle mare and his 3 year old saddle horse belonging to his son Jay. The horses were found dead in the corral Thursday morning after both ingested poison oats placed under grain bins to deter mice rats and gophers.

First Annual Junior Ski Tournament Proves Success
The event at Parowan's new ski run featured 12-year-old and younger juniors and a senior race. Kendall Lister won the Junior Slalom in 46 seconds, Larry King took the Junior Downhill in 211 seconds, and Marion Rasmussen won the Senior Downhill in 2245 seconds. Other juniors included Sherel Lister and Lyman Munford, with several others listed. two competitors fell. Rasmussen was the sole senior entrant, and records imply the junior course was significantly shorter than the senior course.

Parowan area hunter logs two of the big cats in bounty effort
The Big Cat became reality in Parowan area as Wallace Adams and Arnold Button of the federal fish and wildlife service trapped two mountain lions. A week earlier Adams captured a large female. The hunters, with six hounds, treed the second male lion northeast of Paragonah and plan to remain a month to aid stockmen. Continued on Back Page.

Cpl Claude Adams Body Returned For Paragonah Burial
Remains of Cpl Claude D Adams son of Mrs Jane Adams will arrive Friday Jan 12 with graveside services set for 12:00 at Paragonah Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Mr and Mrs Frank Dunton home. Adams died in the Peleliu Islands battle while serving with the U S Marines.

Remodeling East Ward Chapel approved for $10,000 plan
The Parowan East Ward Chapel will undergo a $10,000 remodeling project approved by the Parowan Stake Presidency and the Presiding Bishop's Office. Delegation from the East Ward including former Bishop Guymon and Bishop Mitetiwil met in Salt Lake City to arrange start dates, with work expected to begin soon. A separate $60,000 addition remains planned after the interior work, featuring acoustics upgrades, an enhanced public address system, an electronic organ, new drapes, a front balcony curtain, and carpeting.
