Literary Club To Conduct March Of Dimes Here

The Parowan Literary Club will conduct the March of Dimes drive in Parowan this year. Members will canvass houses for ten days and collect donations with envelopes at homes and schools for the Polo fund, led by Zosa P. Topham and Morgan Rollo.

Parowan Stake Banquet Social Set For Monday Nite

Parowan Stake plans a turkey dinner program and dance Monday evening at the West Ward Banquet room to raise funds for Temple Cove in St George. Hugh L Adams heads the committee with E Ray Lyman Topham Otto Dalley Elwin Armstrong and High Priest officers canvassing for tickets. Dancing will feature orchestras from Enoch Paragonah and Parowan with a program running throughout the event. Continued on Page Four.

Estella Lamoreaux Dies in Paragonah at 56

Estella J Lamoreaux 56 died at home after long illness with several operations. Born December 31 1890 in Paragonah daughter of Joseph J Jones and Evita June Rovb Jones she married Andrew M Lamoreaux in 1909 and had seven children. Survived by husband father one daughter and six sons with many grandchildren and siblings. Funeral held Thursday at 2 PM in Paragonah Ward Chapel.

Parowan F F A Chapter News Harvests and Livestock Updates

Parowan F F A reports new Duroc pigs from Colorado bought to improve swine on gilt chain bases, with Larry King receiving one as well. An advisory meeting awarded a dairy calf to Farron Heap, a Parowan High sophomore, on chain bases. The calf descends from a cow funded by the Bank of Southern Utah in spring 1946. The chapter continues community pig killing efforts. Reported by Kendall Lister.

Pvt Eldon Laub Orton Enlists at Lackland AFB

Eldon Laub Orton 18 son of Mr and Mrs A Clark Orton of Parowan reported to Lackland AFB near San Antonio for basic training. The thirteen week course will evaluate aptitude and determine assignment to technical training and a specialized vocation within the Air Force.

Final Rites Held For Cpl. Claude Adams

Final rites for Cpl. Claude D. Adams were held at Paragenah cemetery with American Legion Post 20 and Bishop Gilbert Robinson directing. Military honors included a guard, gun salute, taps, flag presentation to his mother, and a firing squad. Adams, born in Parago in 1924, died September 20, 1944, on Peleliu. he is survived by his mother Jane Adams, a brother Dean, and several sisters. Crowds from surrounding communities attended the service.

The Parowan Ward MIA Gleaner Girls achieve 100 percent enrollment and will perform the Bind the Sheaf ceremony during Mutual Tuesday night. County Wool Growers To Meet Saturday Eve

The Lion County Wool Growers annual election meeting will be held Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the Court House Parowan. Officers to be elected and plans for the State Meet will be discussed, along with funds to aid Government hunters in mountain lion control. Present officers are Charles F. Services Held For James N. Connell

Funeral services for James Newberry Connell 77 of St George were held at the Ward Chapel with Bishop Earl O Mitchell presiding. The service featured choirs, special music by the Ivan Decker family and a mixed quartet, prayers by Bishop Leonard Evans, and remarks by Arthur Joseph and Wendall Bayles. Connell born January 4 1873 in Parowan was a longtime church member and temple worker. He married Zolla Watson in 1901 and Annie M Webb in 1945. he is survived by his widow and four daughters Arvilla Marsden Clara Scott Eileen White and Zola Connell. He previously served a temple mission and was caretaker of church grounds.

Famous Chocolate Coeds to play Parowan Wednesday

The famous Chocolate Coeds basketball team visits Parowan High Wednesday to meet the Parowan team in a charity game sponsored by the Jaycees to raise funds for new fire fighting equipment. Last Rites Held For Sylvanus Wimmer in Parowan

Funeral services for Sylvanus Vene Wimmer 69 were held in Parowan East Ward Chapel with Gaylord Whitney in charge. He died Saturday at Utah State Hospital Provo from a heart ailment and burial followed at Parowan City cemetery overseen by Fairbanks-Tyne mortuary of Orem. The mixed quartet performed and the service featured The Lord's Prayer, invocation by Samuel J. Whitney, and remarks by R Wallace Hulet Jesse Guyman and Barbara Adams. Cherie Day sang Hold Thou My Hand and Lead Me Gentely Home.

Paragonah Couple Honored At Reception

Paragonah Mr and Mrs Bruce Parton were feted Saturday evening Jan 14 in the school house auditorium after their wedding. Over two hundred guests braved bad weather to attend the reception with a program including vocal solos by Mrs June Topham and Mr William Davenport a reading by Mrs Lillis Spencer a saxophone solo by Hazel Jean Davenport and an accordion number by Helen McBride A miniature bride and groom cake topped the refreshment table as the cake was cut and served.

Scouting Membership Reaches New Peak in Utah Council

Rulon W. Doman, council executive, reports Utah National Parks Council membership at an all time high. As of January 1 1950, 6630 boys in 413 units were enrolled, with 10 new units added in 1949. The council has about 2200 scouters directing the group, making it the largest in Region 12, covering Utah Nevada Arizona California and the Hawaiian Islands, with only Los Angeles council surpassing its Scout membership.
