Robert M Miller succumbs in Honolulu hospital

Robert Matheson Miller 27 of Parowan died in a Honolulu hospital after a week in critical condition from a rare streptococcal infection. He was formerly with S H Kress, Honolulu assistant manager since 1951, born February 11 1927 in Parowan. Survived by wife Malo McNicoll, children Gregory Allen and Mona Lee, parents Mr and Mrs Taylor Miller, and several siblings. Funeral set for Parowan Third Ward Chapel with burial in Parowan Cemetery under American Legion Past No 20.

Parowan City Reveals 1955 Budget Plan and Power Plant Focus

Parowan City publishes the 1955 budget listing revenues and expenditures. Despite higher total revenue than 1954, regular city operation funds are reduced to finance the Paragonah power plant project nearing completion. Officials hope increased output will allow resumption of other projects next year.

Paragonah Man Marries Provo Miss

James A Anderson of Paragonah wed Gailia Brown of Provo in a Dec 29 stake house ceremony. Attendants included Marilyn Cowley and two bridesmaids. Garth Lunt served as best man. Bishop Jones officiated. Couple honeymooned in Salt Lake City and plan to live in Price. Gailia Brown is a Provo High School graduate and former Girl Scout camp instructor. James H Anderson and Mrs Miriam Limb attended from Paragonah and Beaver respectively. James is a Korean War veteran and Telephone Company employee.

Daughters of Utah Pioneers Ring In New Year in Parowan

Members of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers of Parowan gathered at the Old Rock Church on New Year’s Eve. At 11 45 p m they climbed to the belfry and rang the old church bell for about 45 minutes, reviving a community tradition. Evelyn Lowder, Clara Benson, Madge Stevens, and Lillian Heap pulled the rope to welcome 1950.

Two Sandhogs Hailed As Heroes

Long Island Daily Press reports two sandhogs injured in a December 28 Astoria sewer tunnel explosion are hailed as heroes. John Ryan of Far Rockaway and Alexander Gagliardi of Manhattan helped 27 men escape the blaze and reach the tunnel entrance decompression chamber.

Stake Musical Festival Set For Wednesday Eve

A Stake Musical Festival is planned for next Wednesday evening January 12 at 7 p.m. in the Parowan Third Ward L.D.S. Chapel. The event features quartets and trios, directed by M.L.A. Music directors D. A. Stones and Itah Mortensen. All wards are invited and admitted free of charge.

New Year's Breakfast a Huge Success in Parowan

More than 50 youths and MIA leaders from five of six Parowan Stake wards joined in a 3 am New Year breakfast at the Old Rock Church basement. Junior Gleaners Gleaners and M-Men from Enoch Summit and Parowan wards helped Sanford Topham and Janet Jones plan and execute the meal, praised as a top MIA event for the LDS Church.

Registration Monday at Academy School library for a second series of adult education courses in Parowan announced by PTA Adult Education chair Mrs. Claude Lister. Courses include Upholstery Wood Work Farm Mechanics Physical Education for men and women Refresher Typing Welding Ceramics and more with several instructors. Parowan 104th Birthday Celebrated by DUP Plans

Parowan marks its 104th birthday with a January 13 celebration hosted by SONS & DAUGHTERS OF UTAH PIONEERS and DUP camps. A bell toll at 10 a.m. kicks off activities at the Old Rock Church, followed by a noon luncheon for those over 75 and a program, dancing and an evening social in the Recreation Hall. Local leaders from DUP and SUP organize the events and invite former residents and Tri State area residents to attend.

Plans For Stake Social Evening Announced

Parowan Stake announces a social evening on January 17 with co chairs Hugh L Adams Raymond L Farrow and George D Grimshaw. The event at the school features a light luncheon at 6 50 PM in Home Economics and lunch rooms a 7 PM movie in the auditorium and basketball games in the PHS gymnasium. A second game at 8 30 PM features another pair of M Men teams. Relief Society members serve lunch throughout the evening and a half time program from each ward highlights the event. Tickets cover the entire evening.

Marlene Adams Engaged to Elvid Williams of Cedar City

Mr. and Mrs. T Randall Adams announce the engagement of their daughter Marlene to Elvid Junior Williams of Cedar City. The couple plans a February wedding in the St. George L D S Temple. Marlene is a Parowan High School graduate and CSU Cedar alumna. Elvid is a CSU attendee and Utah State Agricultural College graduate now farming in Cedar Valley.
