The community hosts a rabbit hunt on Sunday February 22 with teams assembling at 1 p.m. at a service station to form sides and follow safety and event instructions. Bells may be secured at the venue as local sportsmen prepare for participation and fundraising.
Miss Helen Jane Siegfus of Parowan earns membership with Circle Theatre of Los Angeles California. The Circle Theatre champions theater pioneering not celebrity stardom and recently staged William Saroyan's Sam Ego's House in San Francisco to benefit the March of Dimes. Siegfus, UC Berkeley graduate, studies at UCLA and Pasadena Play House, has trained with notable theater figures and plans continued study and Circle Theatre work this year. Paragonah Town Board appoints Burrus Barton town marshal and others.
In Parowan the Boy Scout Troop 343 conducted a candlelight investiture at the Old Relief Society Hall, enlisting ten tenderfoot members under Scoutmasters Frank Patten and John Manning. Named new scouts include Melvin Mitchell, Larry Mitchell, Fred Bentley, Spencer Adams, Donald Haycock, Allen Morris, Val Holyoak, Orson Orton, Elwood Benson, and Ted Burton.
Parowan west ward Boy Scouts will preside over a preliminary meeting at Mutual next Tuesday to hold their Court of Honor presenting badges and new membership cards. Scout leader Mr. Wm. T. Gabler will be headlined as guest speaker. all are urged to attend.
At a regular Junior Chamber of Commerce meeting a 10 or 12 member delegation was chosen to attend the State Travel Trophy award banquet in Layton Utah on February 26. The award honors clubs with the highest membership relative to miles traveled and is kept by the club with the most man miles by year end. Parowan continues.
The Southwest Utah Power Company is formed in Cedar City by Washington and Iron County representatives to explore electric power sources. A 10 member board with five from each county will raise funds, survey options, and select the best source for development. Board from Washington includes LeRoy Cox and Mayor Alvin Larson with Enterprise, St. George, and East Washington Center reps. Iron County lineup features Adams, Hatch, Perry, Mac Donald, Moyle and others. Cox elected president, Adams VP, Isom second VP. Engineering firms have already contacted the board and financing talks with REA officials in Washington, D. C. are planned.
Funeral services for Mrs. Romania K. Dunton 79. Held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Paragonah Ward chapel. She died Tuesday at her son Harvey Dunton’s home after a long illness. Born September 17, 1868 in Santa Clara she married David D. Dunton in 1893. Survived by three children Letty Workman Priscilla Lyda and Harvey E. Dunton ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Deputy Tax Collector Henry H. Leigh will be at the County Court House on February 24 to assist anyone filing their 1947 Federal Income Tax Return. Anyone with income of $500 or more is required to file a return.
In a packed Parowan arena the Hurricane Typhoons beat the Rams 32 to 31 in overtime after a tense clash that kept fans on edge from start to finish. Hurricane led early, the Rams rallied with Robinson and Dalton, but a late surge and controversial officiating left Parowan with three players fouling out and Hurricane clinching the dramatic victory.

The West Ward Relief Society schedules a banquet and program at the West Ward Church Recreation Hall on Monday March 1 at 7 p m Tickets cost 1 00 for adults and 50c for children under 12 Profits go to the Relief Society Building Fund Tickets are available from president Mrs Della Marsden and assistants Mrs Jane Richards or Mrs Helen Dalton The notice invites the community and especially younger folks to attend for a pleasant evening.
The East Ward Relief Society announces a repeat sale of pastries bread fruits pickles dried foods dressed chickens and other foods at the front of the Variety Store this Saturday afternoon February 21 urging early arrival for best selection.
Mr and Mrs Alton Merrill with two sons and Mr and Mrs Clifton Taylor and their daughter Donetta spent last weekend visiting relatives in the northern part of the state They called on the Alvin Decker family in Provo who sent regards to the people in Parowan.
Officers and committee members of the P T A are praised for a fine program on Monday night. There were excellent speakers and entertaining members. The attendance topped previous events, totaling well over 250 parents.
Tickets for the Cedar Parowan basketball game go on sale at 7 p m on Thursday February 26 prior to the Friday February 27 game. Only 200 seats will be sold with a four-seat limit per person. general admission is 50 cents and student 25 cents. The sale aims to address dissatisfaction with morning sales and notes limited seating but ample standing room.
