Parowan Leader Horne Lyman Reaches 49th Birthday

Parowan resident Horne Lyman celebrated his 49th birthday on February 19 with relatives and friends in a quiet gathering. Born in Parowan on February 16 to Isaac N. and Paulina Phelps Lyman, his father was an LDS Apostle and pioneer, while his mother known as Aunt Pitulloa served rural health needs. Lyman spent most of his life in Parowan, worked in livestock farming, and later retired. He has held church and civic roles including stake council member, Parowan stake presidency, school trustee, Iron County board member, and three terms as Parowan mayor. He married Julia Meih in 1888 and they had seven children. two sons died, and the family includes E Ray Lyman, Verda Adams, Leda Jensen, and LaMar Whitta. Now retired, he enjoys rides and sharing local history.

Mobile X Ray Unit In Parowan Today

A mobile X-ray unit sponsored by the Utah State Department of Health and Iron County tuberculosis association operates in Parowan. Chest X rays are offered to 11th grade students teachers food handlers and others who arrange in advance. The program runs today and occurs every two years for early detection of chest trouble.

The Parowén Gun and Red club accepted a challenge from the Cedar Fed. of Wild Life for a rabbit hunt set for Sunday Feb 29. Members should meet at the Court House at 10:00 a m Sunday. Cedar Club will provide lunch and the losing team pays 50c toward the feed, with 30c extra suggested.

Alcoholics Anonymous Speaker Lectures in Parowan

Glenn Hatch of Salt Lake City, on behalf of Alcoholics Anonymous Utah, lectured Friday morning at Parowan High School auditorium about alcoholism as a disease. He shared his fall from a law career and wealth, then redemption through AA, noting Utah membership rising from six to over 600 and urging public education and community support through churches and civic groups.

Cedar City Jaycees hosted a Monday banquet at ElRey Cafe where Glenna Holyoak of Parowan and Elsa Hunt of Enterprise received 17 jewel wrist watches from Calvin Smith of Times Jewelry Shop Cedar City for Jaycee Americanism contest wins. Relief Society Banquet Planned Monday Evening

West Ward Relief Society invites the public to a banquet at 7 pm in the West Ward Recreation Hall. Tickets are sold by officers or at the door. BYU Leadership Week Open House March 4 7

Brigham Young University hosts its 26th Leadership Week March 4 7 inviting Intermountain area residents and church leaders. About 30 short courses cover health home management economics literature and teaching methods with religious instruction and leadership topics featured in the final day program. Impressive Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Romania K. Dunton

Funeral services for Mrs. Romania K. Dunton were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Paragonah Ward Chapel under Bishop Gilbert Robinson. Speakers William P. Barton and J. Leonard Topham led the service, with a life sketch by Mrs. Olive Edwards. The choir sang O My Father and Resting now from Care and Sorrow, Hazel Jean Davenport played saxophone, with Wilma Lamoreaux at the piano. Burial at the cemetery was solemnized by Joseph E. Lister. Mrs. Dunton’s two Idaho daughters attended, along with several out of town guests.
