Parowan defeats Enterprise 42 to 0 as they build a lead in the Southern region standings. Robinson and Hunt score 10 each for Parowan while Stevens and the center add balanced contributions. Cedar City and Hurricane battle for second. Parowan eyes remaining games en route to a likely final.
TH announces cE on basket ball seats with priority for team families and students. General admission remains 50c, reserved seats offered after 8:30 a m on game day by telephone. upcoming home games include Hurricane on Feb 14 and Feb 27 with possible state trip if seats sell out.
A Sunday School convention is set for February 22 in Parowan Stake to host Beaver St George and Zion Park Stakes at the Branch Agricultural College auditorium. J Holman Waters chairs with Derham Folland Glade Monson Swapp named on the Desert Sunday School Union board. Sunday school workers urged to mark the date.

The Utah Music Educators Association organizes a three day conference for Utah high school students February 19 20 21 at Brigham Young University Provo. A 300 voice chorus will be led by C B Lawrence and a 125 piece band by Ralph B Rush with guest conductors directing intensive training and a concert to close the event.
Jaycees sponsor Americanism oratorical contests during Americanism Week Feb 14 to 21. A 45 dollar 17 jewel wrist watch prize awaits winners at Arrowan High School Cedar City and Enterprise with identical prizes. Calvin Smith Time Shop Cedar City donated the watches. Any high school student may enter a speech up to five minutes on an American phase. The contest is in a high school assembly Feb 20 with winners to be interviewed on KSUB Feb 23 and a Cedar City public meeting that evening.
The Utah State Department of Health will bring a mobile X-Ray unit to Parowan on February 26 and 27 to aid early tuberculosis detection. Sponsored by Iron County Health, in cooperation with the county tuberculosis association, the program is funded through Christ mas Seal purchases. Open to 11th and 12th grade students, school staff, adults who may have exposure, and food handlers. Referral via a doctor or public health nurse. Wear clothing without metal trims and remove all neck and costume jewelry. Further details via public health nurse Alice H Barton at 2381.
Mr and Mrs Hugh Gilger learned of their son LeRay Gilger marrying Miss Pauline Minchew on January 6. The ceremony occurred in Colorado Springs where the groom has been hospitalized for a year and the bride works in the hospital. Pauline is the daughter of Mr and Mrs John N Minchew of Atmore Alabama.
Augusta Adams announces plans for National P T A Founders Day observance at Parowan High School Auditorium Monday at 8 p.m. The program features talks on the P T A Four Point Program and Founders Day, greetings from Principal A C Hatch, a 56 voice high school chorus, 102 elementary students, and a social with Valentine decor and refreshments for all guests.
Word came of a new granddaughter born Friday February 6 to Evaleen and Wallace George of Heart Mountain Wyoming. Ruby Mateson left for Wyoming to stay about a month with her sister and the new baby, taking Julie and Bevan. Steve Norris and wife are proud parents of a son born February 7 at the hospital. Miriam Moore shopped in Salt Lake City for Miriams Style Shop. Arvel Halterman entered a Salt Lake City hospital for a serious spinal operation. Nellie Pritchard visits Salt Lake City with her children. J C Hulet and family from Provo visited Parowan briefly. Amelia Topham hosted Joseph Jensen and wife and Edward Holms and family from Salt Lake City, en route to Los Angeles for a business and pleasure trip. Afton and Ted visited Parowan last week.
Parowan residents and animals struggle to dig out as the city road patrol keeps streets clear after heavy snowfalls. Weather observer Clayton Rasmussen reports 18 inches of snow this month with 1.29 inches moisture, subzero temperatures, and days with highs near 20 degrees. Compared to February 1947, precip and temperatures were milder then, but recent clear skies hint at relief from the harsh conditions.
During Scout Week Troop 343 Parowan East Ward Scouts led by Frank Patten and John Manning report 26 boys fixing up the old Relief Hall as a scout hall. They cleaned, repaired, hauled fuel, and received an American flag from the American Legion for ceremonies. They plan permanent headquarters and are building gear for camping and pack frames. A display of scout equipment is shown at Buy-Rite Grocery.
Parowan City Council filled several posts at a regular meeting reappointing Howard Ward as City electrician Ray Adams as City Marshall and supervisor of employees Clifton Halterman as water and streets supervisor Max Hendrickson as assistant to the street supervisor Winston Orton and Frank Mortensen as power plant operators Clayton Rasmussen as city caretaker of parks and grounds Albert M Marsden as City attorney A City Building inspector David H Richards was named and a Board of Health will be headed by City Physician Dr Peterson with Mayor Lyman Marshall Adams and Alice H Barton as members The Parowan Gun and Red Club is launching a fundraising drive with a 1 dollar member assessment totaling 2 dollars for the year to finance projects including elk transport and crow extermination efforts.
Albert E. Adams announces the local American Legion will sponsor a Military Ball on February 20 at the High School Gym. The event will honor George Washington’s birthday with a military theme and additional name plates added to the World War I Monument in City Park. Legion members Robert Fowler Lorin Orton Chester Ward and Auxiliary members Belle Lemmon Marie Orton Sarah Lowder lead the monument plates committee. Music Makers will provide the music.
Robert M Parker and Martha Jane Martin exchanged vows at 7 39 PM on February 6 at the home of Mrs Charles Martin 2307 Vermont Ave Connorsville Indiana. Parker, known in Parowan as Bob, is the son of the late Dan Parker and a Parowan High School graduate.
Parowan attorney Pat Fenton recently opened a law office in Cedar City after a notable high school and college career. A Parowan High School debating standout, he graduated with honors in 1934, then attended Branch Agricultural College and continued forensic activity before entering the University of Utah.
