Mrs Arnold Gurr and her two children visit Ogden then coast trip via San Francisco with Arnold joining. Mayor Kay Lyman flies to Salt Lake City for business, returning midweek. Mrs Lena Benson and daughter visit Kingman Arizona with Blain Benson, principal of the Kingman High. Patten drives them down and returns for school duties. Elwood and Eloise Page visit from St George. Lyle Halterman and daughters and S. J. Whitney travel to Provo and Salt Lake City for business and pleasure. Cora W Mortensen and Claudia visit town. Claudia recently returned from 18 months LDS mission. Grandson born to Joane and Theron Wheatley of Brigham City on Jan 21. Ed Johnson of Cowley, Wyoming visits.
Parowan reports the marriage of Robert A. Rowley and Cleone Johnson on Saturday night January 24. Bishop Jesse W. Guyman presided before family and a few friends in the West Ward Relief Society room. The bride wore embossed white crepe with lace veil and bouquet of blue and white carnations. A reception followed with a brief program and cake cutting.
Parowan High School remains atop the division after a 27 to 19 win over the Flyers at home. Stevens and Robinson led Parowan with 24 points as Cedar City and Hurri vie for honors, with upcoming games against Enterprise, Hurricane, Kanab, and Valley shaping the playoff picture.
Bishopric of the two wards announce a joint Sacra Services gathering in West Chapel on February 4. The afternoon speaker is Miss Dia Mortensen, daughter of Enoch Mortensen of Salt Lake City, recently returned from a mission for the Church. East Ward will offer a mixed quartet musical item.
Twelve cast members from Paro Wan East Ward perform What Doth it Profit a three act drama by Nathan and Ruth Hale. Directed by Mrs. Jean Menderickson, the play portrays Maryella Barnett and a cast of neighbors in a tale of romance, struggle, and local humor. Remember the date February 9 at West Ward Recreation Hall.
The Parowan M Men lost to Cedar City L. D. 5S Institute in a thriller on Tuesday night. The game stayed tied until 30 seconds remained when Cedar scored to take a 33 to 31 lead. The hometown squad fought hard but could not reclaim the final margin.
Ida Pmith, captain, announces Paulina Camp D U P holds its next monthly meeting on February 12 at 2 PM at Anna Retta Reid's home. Retta Reid will host and discuss Among the Firers in All. Members and interested ladies urged to attend.
A Utah newspaper corrects an error claiming Hugh L. Adame was re elected to the Utah State Wool Growers Association Board. The correction states T Ran dall Adams, not Adame, was elected to represent Iran County at the Salt Lake City convention. The apology and clarification appear in the January 21 issue reference.
Iron County surpassed its March of Dimes goal led by Parowan Jaycees chair Whit Orton. County totals include Cedar City envelopes, with Parowan receipts not separately tracked, plus about 225 from a dance, a Saturday ball game, public-place boxes, and schoolchildren’s contributions.
Mrs. Claud Orton hosted Beverly Orton birthday gathering with eight friends on January 29. Other residents honored include Mrs. Phoebe Taylor on January 27, Mrs. Roca Mitchell on January 30, and Mrs. Laura Benson on Wednesday of the week, each hosting gatherings with tea and refreshments.
In response to a State Fish and Game request, Rows Leonard led Saund ers Clark and Emner Mitchell from the local club to transport five elk cows and five bulls captured near Santaquin. The herd was unloaded in Pine Valley as Cedar City sportsmen plan future shipments to the southern region after wardens trap more elk.
The local Parents and Teachers Association led by Mrs. Augusta Adams plans a Founders Day observance on Monday February 16 in the High School Auditorium. Event features student and teacher performances, with Mrs Edna Sargent regional director attending. A social in the library will follow with Valentine themed decorations and refreshments. Mrs Day Chamberlain daughter of Mrs Scott Day left last week to join husband Kay Chamberlain son of Mrs Ruth Chamberlain of Summit in San Diego Kay trains with the U S Navy at the San Diego base They wed in October 1947 and the groom returned to California while the bride remained in Cedar City with her mother.
The Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launches a drive to fund a Salt Lake City building. Parowan Stake members face a $4,783.35 quota with limited payments, urging contributions from all interested to meet a 50 percent goal by March 17 and full target by the May Stake convention.
East Ward Relief Society will hold a Saturday afternoon food sale in front of the Mitchell Variety Store to raise the $5 per capita Building Fund assessment. Members donate the food and will be credited toward their quotas, offering prepared and unprepared foods including chili jams picks and baked items.
