Conservation Officers To Be Elected Friday

Iron County farmers will vote Friday in Parowan for officers of the Iron County Agricultural Conservation Association. County Democratic chair Rulon micheton announced that Congressional Record editions are in county public libraries for interested readers. The volumes, provided through Congressman Abe Murdock, cover daily Naval and general Congressional activities, including bills and speeches, and are for in-library use by students and townspeople to stay informed about Washington.

Wrendale Cheese Wins Scoring Contest Again

Wrendale Cheese repeated as scoring champion for the second consecutive month in a Palo choteo judged event judged by the U S A C Gairy De partment report relayed by local cheese dealer Mr Dennett. The cheese scored 2.6 points in competition with nine other statewide entries in November, with the next highest at 2 points and the lowest at 0.88. One observer noted the cheese was flat yet good but had a blue tinge indicating insufficient aging. A score of 2 or higher was considered very good with 4 the best possible rating. On Sunday December 19 the West Ward hosts a special Christmas program inviting all to attend. East Ward Choir to Practice Sunday Night

Members of the East Ward choir are reminded that regular practice will be held Sunday evening December 9th at the chapel. The session follows the union meeting in Cedar City that afternoon. All members urged to attend and a special concert program is planned for public entertainment.

State vs Miller drama and other student performances announced. Faculty hosting a big Christmas party Saturday evening in home economics room. seniors also planning a Christmas party. Beaver High plans an exchange program with a neighboring school. A decorated Christmas tree was found in Mrs Detraia’s room on Tuesday.

Eight year old Little Florence Mortensen, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tart Mortensen, underwent an operation at the county hospital Wednesday for an internal disorder. The case was serious for a couple of days, but latest reports indicate she is feeling a little better now.

Weekend Storm Records Heavy Local Rainfall

A weekend storm dropped 1.52 inches of moisture in town with 2.32 inches in the valley area. Rain began Saturday night and continued Sunday, surpassing Easter and Memorial Day totals, aided by an additional 0.28 inch from Thursday. The region's December rainfall exceeded average by 38 percent, easing prior drought. Ground moisture improved, though canyon depths reached up to 12 inches higher upstream.

Funeral services held for Sarah Jane Pritchard

Funeral services were held for Sarah Jans Pritchad at East Ward chapel with Bishop W L Adamin presiding. Choirs and musical numbers accompanied by Mary Jane Mitchell marked the service, with speakers praising her family and church duties. The cemetery grave was dedicated by Arthur Cottam. Six grandsons served as pallbearers and many grandchildren attended.

Iron County Tax Collections Near Last Year Level

County Treasurer Hulet reports tax collections are about the same as last year in Iron County though total money and percentage paid remain undetermined. Only two days remain to pay before delinquency Monday December 20, with a 2 percent penalty after that. Delinquent taxes will be advertised by Tron County. Large taxpayers and utilities are expected to pay mainly on the last day. A wedding in Mrs Myers family drew Las Vegas visitors.

Commissioners Hold December Meeting

Heard County Commissioners met to act on county tax foreclosures and applications to redeem. Letters from Senators Wolf King and Elbert D. Thomas offered little encouragement on Boulder Dam power for Utah. A tentative budget hearing was set for Dec 31 with a follow up Dec 31 at 2 p.m. to adopt the budget. Waivers were signed for rights of way to antelope springs and Almneraville roads for CCC work. The clerk was instructed to notify property owners to shut off water to a 4 rod road right of way and barrow pits used as ditches were ordered stopped.

Extension leaders return from school in Logan

County Agent and four local extension leaders arrived home after a ten day Adult Leadership School in Logan. Iron County attendees included Arnold Y Stevens Nellie M Clark Verna Hyatt and Mrs Rapdolph Grimshaw along with other county residents to form a County Planning Board to assess resources and seek solutions for rural development.

Afton Thornton Weds Boulder City Man

A quiet wedding took place at two o'clock this afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs Wil U Thornton. Their daughter Aten Thornton married Ted Werner of Boulder City Nevada. Bishop Will J Adams officiated in the presence of immediate family. A wedding dinner followed at Taylor's Cafe and the couple planned to reside in Boulder City. Miss Thornton recently returned from Salt Lake City after beauty culture schooling. Werner is employed by the government as a park ranger and Sam Pritedarg plans to attend the Branch Agricultural College.
