Rold Rogerson discovered a way to trap a deer by digging a hole in his yard near the Mest Lowe residence. A four pointer fell into the pit, was freed by neighbors, and roams toward the foothills while others of the herd wander nearby.
A Parowan native Mamie Durham Orion celebrated the wedding anniversary of William H. Ortos at the Ant Temple on December 10, 1897. She hosted a luncheon and party in Parowan, inviting relatives and friends on a Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Irton is a Parowan native who married in July 1925. Mrs. Ortos is also a Parowan native, daughter of Thomas and Caroline Durham, pioneers to the country and her father a pioneer music leader. Continued on back page.

Parowan residents face a string of holiday activities including Parowan High School play A Little Honey and Cedar City Choral Society Messiah. The coming two weeks feature Messiah in East Ward Chapel Wilford the Magician in Auditor Friday and Saturday Christmas programs, dances, balls, and league games with Parowan teams hosting Manti Kanab and more.
Shirley May Rowley and Lyle Osborne Evans were wed in the St George Temple with President Harold S Snow officiating. A reception for about 125 guests followed at the West Ward Church Relief Society rooms, with details of the bride’s nylon chiffon gown, lace veil, and red rose corsage.
The Parowan High School music department under Mr John Mannings invites the public to a Saturday evening program December 20 in the school auditorium. The program features the High School Band Girls Chorus Junior High Chorus String Orchestra and various solos and readings. Admission 35 cents general 50 cents reserved to raise funds for a recorder purchase for the department. Parents urged to attend and support the effort.
Robert L. Fenton, Los Angeles breeder and businessman, was honored by the Los Angeles Turf Club for his dedication to thoroughbred stock. He received a nomination blank enabling one or more of his 1947 colts to enter the Santa Anita Maturity, a $100,000 added Four-Year-Olds race at Santa Anita Park during its 1951 meeting.
Mrs. Jed Orton underwent gall bladder removal at County Hospital last week and returned home Wednesday to convalesce. Frank Patten, elementary school principal, attended a school principals convention in Salt Lake City. Jack Mortensen, stationed with the Army Air Corps at Castle Field Merced California, spent three weeks in Parowan visiting family. Sgt Mortensen reenlisted after active duty and hopes to be home for Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. S A Halterman also noted.
The Porowan Junior Chamber sponsors a two hour plus magic show to ease the Christmas lighting project burden. Tickets are on sale at local meat businesses and proceeds support the Jaycees efforts.
Arrangements are complete to bring The Messiah to Parowan Monday evening December 15 at 7 p.m. Conductor William H. Manning and orchestra director Prof. Roy Halverson lead performers who agreed after the Cedar City rehearsal Tuesday night to come to Parowan. College rules require students’ transportation costs to be paid by program recipients, with Parowan Chamber of Commerce covering necessary expenses to allow county residents to hear the performance. A $160 fireworks display is planned for Christmas Eve with Dec 13 as season opener and Dec 21 as lighting contest deadline. A three member committee was appointed to study legal steps for incorporation, assess costs of a plant, and explore temp relief from shortages via Boulder Dam through Lincoln Power District Pioche Nevada and the Esclante Valley R E A lines. The panel may call a special meeting to formalize incorporation once data is gathered.
Albert E. Adame of the local American Legion announces committees and plans for a New Year's Eve dance at the High School Gymnasium. The Music Makers will provide music, with carnival decorations and balloons, serrpent tine and name makers creating festive atmosphere. Dancing runs into the early hours as residents are urged to attend.
At a December 2 meeting in Cedar City the Bank of Southern Utah elected John F. Christensen as president to succeed Lehi W. Jones who died recently. James C. Robinson of Parowan was chosen as vice president, filling the former vacancy in that role. Henry L. Jones was added to the Board of Directors.
Funeral services for Mark Barton son of Mr and Mrs Austin Barton were held Monday afternoon in the Paragonah Ward Chapel under the Bishopric. The choir sang Sometime We Understand and The Deepning Trials. A piano solo by Marion Decker of Parowan and a Ladies Trio by Wilma Lamoreaux June Topham Viola LaFever and Norma Topham were featured.
