Paragonah Teen Dies After Illness at County Hospital

Mark Dean Barton age 16 died at county hospital Thursday November 4 after a year of poor health from diabetes and a kidney ailment tracked to Bright's disease. Born July 24 1951 in Cedar City he was a junior at Parowan High School. Survived by parents William and Rosella Barton and siblings Dorothy Deil LaRge Mitchell Monks Barton in Topeka Katherine Rose Ann Kathleen Vesta etc.

Parowan Literary Club Xmas Meeting Honors Jean Wrendrickson

Parowan Literary Club met Wednesday December 3 at the home of Fae Beason. Mrs Jean Wrendrickson was chosen as a member representative and Mrs Hazel Pendleton led a Christmas lesson assisted by Mary and Iona Tophatt who performed songs. Readings by Marian Lister, Jean Hendrickson, Huldah Hale, and Zona Topham followed a short Christmas play. Santa Claus offered a timely entrance and presented memos of the season while Mrs Hendrickson hosted dainty refreshments.

Nola Mae Mitchell daughter of Janie Mitchell Richards buys the Charm Beauty Salon from Mrs. Sara Bayles. She reopens the shop on the second floor of the bank Building offering all beauty services to the local women, filling a vacancy since fall.

A Centennial Story of Southern Ute recounts 1852 observations by John D. Lee and party on Long Valley. They described handsome settlements in a fertile river bottom with irrigation, ample rangeland, timber, and coal. The 1860s settlement along a 20 mile river flat began 1864, paused 1866, then was reoccupied.

Parowan High School to stage A Little Honey play for scenery funds

Parowan High School presents a three act comedy A Little Honey in the auditorium on December 12 to raise funds for new stage scenery. The production features lead performances by Crendma Thornton Diana Minto and Tom Corning with a large cast directed by Mrs. Jean Hendrickson and student director Leanna Guymon. General admission is 25 cents with reserve seats 15 cents. tickets on sale at the school office and at the door.

Shalla Hyatt Weds Monroe Youth In Home Ceremony

Miss Shalla Hyatt daughter of Mr and Mrs Cheater B Hyatt Parowan united in marriage to Dee DeMille son of Mr and Mrs Jess DeMille Monroe Utah in a double ring home ceremony at 5 o clock Thanksgiving Eve Bishop Leonard Evans Paorowan West Ward officiated Bridesmaids and guest list include out of town relatives. Reception followed in Relief Society rooms West Ward Church with a luncheon and gifts organized by family members. The couple will reside in Trailer Town near the College as DeMille prepares further studies and Hyatt attended Branch Agriculture College Cedar City Xi Lambda Tau Sorority member. The groom served 25 years in US Navy including South Pacific Radio Intelligence. Acknowledgments extend for support after the loss of a dear husband and father.

East Ward Deacons Visit Hoover Dam Expedition

Fourteen East Ward Deacons with Bishop's Councilors Elmer O. Gurr and M. Howard Ward traveled by two cars to Hoover Dam last weekend. They toured the dam and Power House, rode a boat on Lake Mead, stayed under the Nevada sky, and returned home Saturday after sight seeing.

Son Pilots Father On Extensive Air Trip

Lloyd Guymon piloted one of three light planes on a multi day flight with his father Jesse Guymon from Cedar City Airport through Needles Imperial County Calexico Yuma Phoenix and over the Grand Canyon. The trip covered 950 miles with arrival at 3 25 pm concluding the training run.

Prominent Summit Matron Dies Of Heart Attack

Mrs. Lillian R. White 72 widow of Herbert W. White died suddenly Wednesday at 4 p.m. at her daughter Annie Lowe's home in Hawthorne Nevada while visiting relatives. Known in Summit as Aunt Lill she was active in church and civic work and longtime president of the Summit Ward Relief Society for 20 years. Continued on back page.

Golden Paramore Funeral follows heart attack death

Clarence Golden Paramore died at about 6 50 p m Sunday at his Parowan home after a sudden heart attack. Born May 19 1900 in Parowan to J King and Bowie Mareden Paramore, he attended local schools and spent seven years at Brigham Young University Provo. He married Josephine Coltrin of Provo Aug 30 1921 and lived in Parowan except four years in Cedar City with Utah Oil Co. Survived by widow, children Rulon C Paramore Salt Lake City Pauline and Mary Jo Paramore Parowan one grandchild and brothers J A Paramore Santa Ana Calif Frank Paramore Beaver Utah and Mrs Nora Reynolds Springville Utah. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm in the Parowan East Ward Chapel with songs by combined ward choirs and a vocal solo The Link Divine by Ray D Garner St George.

Local Legion Post Beats Hurricane In Tight League Game

Parowan Legion defeated Hurricane 27 to 23 in a hard fought Wednesday night contest at the school gym. Heber Gurr led scoring with eight points as Coach Homer Adams praised team work. The Legion travels to St George next week to face Dixie with a home game slated December 18 against Enterprise.

Brother Of Local Woman Dies In Springville

Mrs Thales Brown reported the death of her 31 year old brother Karl Wiscombe in Springville Utah from a long heart condition. He leaves a widow and four children. The Browns left Wednesday to attend the funeral held in Mapleton on Thursday.

Panguitch Funeral Held For Iron County Native

Local residents attended the Panguitch funeral for Henry Orton a former Iron County resident who died suddenly on Thanksgiving day of a heart attack. Attendees included Mr and Mrs William Thornton Mr and Mrs Frank Taylor Mr and Mrs Scott Orton Mrs Mary Stubbs and Lajuana Orton. Services were conducted at the Panguitch Second Ward L D S Chapel by The Paramore Family.
