Parowan Jaycees Stage Magic Show Raises $65 for Holiday Display

The Parowan Junior Chamber of Commerce hosted a magic show at the high school auditorium featuring Wilford & Co. The evening impressed a large audience with the lighting trunk escape and Doll House Illusion while raising 65 dollars to help cover Christmas lighting and fireworks projects in Parowan this year.

Parowan to Host Christmas Eve Fireworks Display

Parowan Chamber of Commerce completes plans for a major fireworks show on Christmas Eve at the southwest corner near the city tree. The Junior Chamber revived materials costing 160 plus freight from Dunbar to mount the display scheduled for about 8 10 p.m. on December 4th.

Pat Fenton Passes Utah State Bar Exam

Pat Fenton, son of Mr and Mrs R L Fenton, has passed the Utah State Bar Examination on his first attempt. He earned a BS and LLB from the University of Utah last spring and was among 22 successful applicants out of 47 in November. He will be sworn in by the Supreme Court in Salt Lake City on January 15.

Messiah Thrills Huge Crowd At East Ward Parowan

A capacity crowd filled Parowan East Ward Chapel to hear the Messiah performed by Cedar City choral groups B A C Mixed Chorus and B A C orchestra under Prof. Halverson and Prof. Manning. Soloists and orchestra drew praise as the Hallelujah Chorus and Worthy in the Lamb moved the audience, with 10 or 12 local youths featured in the production.

Elmo Lowder Breaks Leg After Ice Slip in Cedar City

Elmo Lowder a local service station operator sustained a double leg fracture when he slipped on ice in front of the Avery building in Cedar City last Saturday night. He fell while reentering the building after attending fights with his brother Art Lowder. Doctors at County Hospital set the leg on Tuesday and he expects to be moved home soon for recovery.

Paragonah Ward Relief Society Bazaar And Dance

Paragonah Ward Relief Society held a large bazaar and dance on December 10 with a big crowd. A variety of items were for sale and prizes went to lucky-number holders. Corsages went to the oldest and youngest mothers, Mrs. Julia Griffiths of Greenville and Mrs. Scott Barton, as a decorated Christmas tree added festive spirit.

Paragonah Woman Killed in Colorado Crash

Former Paragonah resident Mrs. Zola Robinson, 47, died instantly in a car wreck near Rio Blanco, Colorado. Her husband Joseph was seriously injured, with multiple broken ribs, but attended the funeral. Surviving are a daughter, two sons, a nephew raised by the couple, five grandchildren, a sister in Salt Lake City, and several brothers in Utah. Funeral services were held Saturday in Rifle, Colorado, directed by Latter-day Saint missionaries, with pallbearers and relatives from Paragonah and nearby towns in attendance.

Santa Claus To Visit Ward Programs On Eve

Santa Claus will visit the Parowan East and West Wards on Christmas Eve as arranged by the Sun Day School superintendents. East Ward programs begin at 6 40 PM at the Chanel with a brief recitation and a gift. West Ward follows at 7 30 PM in the Reeser Hall with a short entertainment.

New Post Office Building Being Constructed

A new post office building is planned on Main Street adjoining Parowan Mercantile. The structure will form a 20 feet front on the street with adjacent brick frontage. Construction features include cut stone and iron components.

Spirit Of Christmas Show By High School Saturday

The Spirit Of Christmas will be presented at the Hick Auditorium at 7:30 PM Saturday under Mr John Mennne. Proceeds fund a recording machine for the school and the program serves as a valuable reference for departments. Continued on page five.

Parowan Choral Groups To Present Pageant Sunday Evening

Parowan Gun & Red Club hosts annual Membership Dance with a 1948 fee of $1.00. Howard Ward leads decorations for an Outdoor theme. East Ward Chapel will feature a Christmas pageant by Parowan choirs, with Iwan Decher and Jean Meads in key roles and local residents as performers. Admission is free to the public with support requested.

Local People and Travel Notes Highlight Holiday Week

Mrs Lowise Palmer and Mes Hildreth Patten entertained their year old son and daughter whose birthdays came in December. Mrs Florence Benson will leave tonight for California to spend Christmas with her sister and visit in Santa Barbara and San Francisco. Mrs Jean Harrie of Beaver visited Parowan with her daughter and son in law. County officials studied state tax conditions with the State Tax Commission. S A Halterman brought Mrs Halterman home from Logan after a visit with relatives. Attorney Scott M Matheson and family stopped in Parowan on the way to Salt Lake City after a Southern California vacation. Gaylord Whitney moved to Cedar City after purchasing a home. Virginia Wood underwent appendectomy. Getta Orton, recently operated on, returned to hospital for tests and treatment but shows improvement. Frature Mitchell returned to Veterans Hospital after a visit with his brother Gerald. Principal A C Hatch returned to work at the local High School following back surgery. Program notes list a prologue and several choral pieces including O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, and The Last Melody. Soloist Rey Lyaian and tenor June Dacker are named with choir accompaniment and a Benediction.

Lieut Adrienne Mickelson Heads to Germany for Army Duty
