Death of PFC Eugene Tsote in Tunisia noted in Fillmore

Local telegram reports the death of PFC Eugene Tsote in Tunisia North Africa. He was 21, a Fillmore native skilled in clerical work who served in the Army Air Forces Engineers unit. Survived by his widow Blanche Trimble and a son Billie Gene, with parents and several siblings. Memorial services planned in Fillmore and possibly elsewhere.

School Board Considers Routine Business Matters

Tron County School Board met for its regular semi monthly session to approve district bills and discuss repairs to buildings and equipment. A Cedar City PTA delegation urged Saturday school cessation but agreed to follow the spring schedule to finish the full course. Samuel Abbott was declared re elected to District No 1.

Gun and Rod Club Plans For Annual Dance

Parowan Goat and Rod Club officers met Tuesday night to set the annual membership ball for Thursday December 30 at the P H 5 Gymnasium. The Cadet orchestra from Cedar City agreed to play if the dance shifts to Thursday. Annual officer elections will occur during the ball with ballots offering two officer tickets from the current member list. A nominating committee will meet December 13 to select the two tickets. Vern Mortensen led the club, with Claude Burton as vice president and Alma Evans secretary.

Local Residents Wed in St George Temple Ceremony

A marriage ceremony at the St George Temple last Friday joined George M Lyman and Elizabeth Day, longtime local residents. The couple was escorted by Bishop W Scott Day and Mrs Day, with Lyman a former city councilman and Parowan Milling employee. Bruce Matheson and a baby son, born November 26 at the county hospital, are also noted among recent local family events.

December Inductees Leave For Examination

Thirty five men report in Salt Lake City for final examination before induction in the Iron County December quota. Twenty nine leave Thursday morning. six transferred to other boards. Several Cedar City registrants among the group and others from Nagelas Panguitch Santa Barbara and Salt Lake City added. Some cases reopened for appeals delaying their induction. Boyd Lawrence informed his deferment appeal time not yet up.

Park Production War Training course at Parowan High School

Evening adult classes begin at Parowan High for December with Park Production War Training to boost Allied food output. Classes run Mondays and Thursdays from 7 30 to 9 30 p m in the Ag room. All out of school youths and adults invited. at least ten farmers must attend.

Film on Irrigation at High School Auditorium

The Soil Conservation will show a one hour film on Irrigation in the High School auditorium next Tuesday afternoon at 0 30 for all age students and farmers of the community interested along that line. Mrs Lizzie W Adams returned from Murray after Thanksgiving with her son Bronson who was recently placed in class I A by his Selective Service Board and may be called into the Army. Mr and Mrs John C Evansley report their son Sherr has been promoted to Corporal in the Army Air Forces and is at Sheppard Field Texas for further assignment.

Parents Hear From Keith Robinson Amid Silence

In a letter dated November 14 from the Mediterranean War zone, Navy seaman Keith Robinson reports to his worried parents that he is safe aboard an LST during the Sicily invasion, one of the first boats to hit the beach, and notes thirty four air raids with no injuries among him or his friends.

City Council Passes Budget at December Meeting

The City Council adopted the budget for next year totaling 19 620 dollars, over 10 000 less than this year. Major saving comes from retirement bond payments that won t be needed next year. They plan upgrades to the power line on Parowan Lane and discuss water system improvements to augment local supply and generate more power. A new council will study potential iron pipe to cast iron replacements and forbay for pumping. Activities in Parowan West ward included a monthly instruction class, a religious dance program, and officer searings by the Bishopric amid war effort efforts.

Laura Lyman Clark Dies In Cedar City At 18

Laura Lyman Clark 18 longtime Parowan resident died at the home of her daughter and son in law in Cedar City after weeks of illness. Born August 19 1865 in Parowan she was a nurse and mother of seven. survived by two sons two daughters a brother 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral set for Sunday at 3 pm in Parowan East ward chapel with services to follow next week.

Meat Points Drop as War Agencies Boost Supplies

Reductions in meat and processed foods take effect Sunday December 5 as OPA lowers point values after War Food Administration released larger civilian stocks. Beef items drop two to three points. pork and processed foods see broad reductions, easing rationing for larger cities and defense areas during the Christmas month.

Delinquent Tax List Smallest Since 1929 in Iron County

The Iron County delinquent tax list in this Times issue is the smallest since 1929 and the editor notes the drop from the Depression era. Bank crash era peaks in 1932 1933 showed 65 percent of taxes paid by utilities with a slow recovery through 1937. This year about 23 columns of delinquents exist versus 94 in 1933, and few residential farm or business properties appear.
