Parowan Gets New Modern Shoe Repair Shop Opens

Parowan welcomes a new shoe repair shop opened Wednesday by Walt who runs the operation from the N. S. Gift Shop front. The shop features a modern machine lineup including a $1400 sewing-and-stitching setup and a buffer and patcher, with Mrs. Taylor assisting as work grows.

Holt Honored 80th Birthday at Family Dinner

A birthday party at the home of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Hyatt honored Henry D Holt on his 80th birthday October. Family members and out of town guests attended a chicken dinner with desserts. Music and visiting followed the meal as relatives and friends shared holiday greetings and gifts.

Choirs Reorganize After Sunday Practices Across Wards

The West ward choir resumed after a three month break with Newell B. Weightt as director and Audrey M. Rowley as organist, alongside staff for secretary, reporter, librarian, and amusements. East ward also reorganized with L. J. Adams director and Itha Mortensen organist, plus a new activity committee. Regular practice set for 2 p.m. each Sunday.

Abbott Wins Re election to Iron County School Board District 1

Samuel Abbot, incumbent Iron County School Board member from District 1, won reelection with 90 votes to T. A. Topham’s 42, with one write-in for James Anderson. Results show Abbott carried all but one polling place. Parowan shows 60 for Topham and 30 for Anderson, Cedar City 1 for Abbott and 2 for Topham. Summit ward reports raised funds for a new chapel, adding $500 to the ward building fund, to be matched by church funds after the war or when materials are available, from Elk supper proceeds and related donations.

More Workers Needed at Utah Turkey Plant

The Cedar City Utah Turkey processing plant appeals for additional adult workers to handle a large Christmas season crop around 30 000 turkeys. Management warns delays could waste feed and meat. The Cedar City schools have assisted before Thanksgiving, but more help is needed to meet Christmas, with 28 000 turkeys remaining for January and February. Pioneers receive 11 and 15 cents per third while others are paid hourly. Mr and Mrs Arch Gilger travel to Idaho Falls to move to Henderson Nevada, with Mrs Cora Lloyd accompanying to Burley Idaho to visit daughter Mrs Kodie L Beal before week’s end.

Parents Travel to See Son Receive Commission Wings

Mr and Mrs Harley W Dalton travel by train to Stockton California to witness son Donald A Dalton receive his Wings as a pilot and be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Forces. He is the second Dalton son to earn the rank after Paul became a Navigator months ago. Donald began pilot training last February at Santa Ana California and completed training at Hemet and Merced flying schools before heading to Stockton three months ago. He is married with one child and his wife and family have resided with her parents in Cedar City during the summer.

Funeral service held Saturday afternoon in East ward chapel for Clarence Dalton reported last week. Elmer Gurr led services with mixed quartet, piano by Itha Mortensen. Speakers included Luella Dalton and Walter Mitchell. Pallbearers were John Dalton Carlyle Dalton Harley Dalton Rylan Dalton Claude Burton and Clark Orton.

Pre season deer hunt to end Sunday in local area

The pre season deer hunt beyond Little Creek to Cottonwood ends Sunday night after a ten day run begun last Wednesday. Hunters report success especially for does and crowding should ease with about 400 deer taken. one violation noted when Max Wood of Cedar City pleaded guilty to selling a deer, fined 200.

The Dalton family thanks Psrowan residents for the sympathy shown after Clarence E. Dalton's passing. Expressions, funeral service kindness, and words are gratefully acknowledged by Clarence Dalton's family, with special note of visits from Venill Orton and Mrs. Frank Orton from Los Angeles. They plan to return home early next week, possibly bringing Venill's mother.

Woolley Dies at Iron County Hospital in Parowan

Mrs Alice Rawberry Woolley longtime Parowan resident died suddenly at Iron County hospital from a bowl obstruction after two days illness. Born August 6 1862 she served as a missionary in Hawaii and led the Tovele Stake Relief Society for 25 years. Survived by sons Ralph J F M R and Ray Woolley of Honolulu and Ethel Bayles of Parowan plus siblings Lon Rowberry C R Rowberry Harriet Crawbey Frank Burmester and Wm E Tharrows. Funeral set for Grantsville First Ward chapel at 2 p.m. Monday.

Parowan High School basketball squad under way for season

Parowan High School coaches expect a 14 man squad from about 25 players across the 7th through 10th grades as they begin league play in January. Coach Thornock will cut players next Friday based on training, grades, attitude, dependability, and conduct, with final squad names announced next week. Legion Membership Drive Under Way in Parowan Utah

The Parowan Post No. 20 American Legion annual membership drive is under way led by Robert W. Talbot of Paragonah and runs through January 1. Dues of 52 dollars have been paid by twenty seven members, and the post has already met its required twenty new members for the year to maintain its charter. Eligible Legionnaires are urged to submit dues to Talbot, Post Commander T. A. Topham, or Vice Commander George Naegle.

Home Town Paper To Go To Men In Armed Forces

Parowan stake initiates weekly home-town newspaper delivery to county service members. Ward committees headed by We Clair Rowley and Silas Topham will manage mailing lists and address changes by Wednesday mornings. Parents must report changes to ensure delivery. funds already raised cover over a year for some wards, with Christmas start planned.

The West Ward MM I A held a session with two musical numbers by Sam Whitney and his harmonic band including Alvin Decker James A Benson T van Decker Carl Mitchell and Mortis Lyman a clarinet solo by Adrian Dalton and piano by Bertha Sue Halterman A Bishop Day talk covered world coins their values and an illustrated Italy lecture. Ernest Orton and his wife returned from Salt Lake City after his operation for grand trouble and he will rest at home for a week though the operation was reported a complete success.
