One Parowan Boy Named in December Inductees

A Parowan man, Harry L Bauer, is listed among seven to report for induction in December per E B Dalley, clerk of the Selective Service Board. Cedar City men include William J Corry, Stewart B Murie, Ralph P Webb, and Trent Rollo. others are William M Hart of New Castle and Frank N Kaida of Loveland, Nevada, who registered in the county. They must report to Salt Lake City on Wednesday, December 13 for induction.

Farewell Social Held For Navy Volunteers

A farewell social was held Tuesday evening after the word M I A Meetings in honor of Joseph Stubbs and Ralph Onton who left for Navy service. The program featured Flag raising, Pledge of Allegiance, opening prayer, speaker John W. Bentley, and musical numbers by the high school choir and a Gordon Whitney Newell Weight duet. The closing prayer was by David Richards and a dance followed. Joe and Ralph enlisted weeks ago, passed their exams, and were called to report to the Navy induction station this morning for boot training.

Matthes Bags Cougar in Parowan Main Canyon

Local hunter Steve Matthes hunted for fun with dogs and treed a six foot mountain lion in Main Canyon. The lion was wounded and shot again after a fight with the dogs. The animal was brought to town after dark following a long day of chasing.

State Engineer issued a well closing order to stop nonessential pumping from November 1 to April 1 to conserve groundwater in Parowan Valley. The Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah will meet in Nephi on Saturday December 9 1944 with a 1 am executive session and 2 pm public meeting. Parowan Literary Club Meets At Fae Benson Home

The Parowan Literary club met at Mrs. Fae Benson's home on Wednesday evening. Mrs Benson presented Stephen Foster as the lesson, with Mary Topham singing Foster songs assisted by Audrey Rowley. After the program refreshments were served. Two weeks earlier Mrs. Ethel Bayles hosted the club and Jean Hershickson retold Pierre Keeps Watch by Maria Glen.

More Orders Needed for Commercial Fertilizer

A county committee urges farmers to submit emer orders for commercial fertilizer to fill a second carload. Initial orders nearly filled the first car, but a full car is required to avoid farmers going without. Requests all who can to place orders now so the shipment to the county can proceed promptly. Antlerless Deer Hunt Dates Set for December 9 to 16

State Fish and Game Commission issued a pair of proclamations setting December 9 through 16 as the antlerless deer hunt period in designated Utah zones including Parowan and Cedar City areas. Only about 111 of 400 permits for the Parowan area had sold, with local sportsmen awaiting the outcome. Also covered is a Christmas gift program for heroes with American Legion and Auxiliary collecting items for soldiers and hospital patients, detailing item categories and delivery instructions to local coordinators by December 10.
