District Court Holds Brief Court Session

The November term of the district court met for a day or two with several cases tried and other matters held for a future term. The State of Utah v Virginia Adair ended with a hung jury. The State v William Corry was continued as Corry enlists in the Army. The State v Fee proceeded, resulting in a guilty verdict after a jury trial. sentencing set for December 4. Fee remains in custody pending bond or sentence. Civil matters included Standard Supply Co. v Millard Halterman and Alban and Mary Doebrusky v Parewan City Corporation, with documents and amendments forthcoming. Adoption of the Sat ey baby awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Skougaard. Local business notes report Scott Day and Ray Knell taking over the Utah Service Station in Cedar City with expansion of auto sales and parts.

Dee Jensen Reported Wounded in Action in Germany

The Times confirms Dee Jensen has been reported wounded or injured in action in Germany. Details on the severity are unavailable in this issue and will be provided next week if possible. Mr and Mrs Austin Benson visited Cedar City relatives for Thanksgiving with Amanda Benson and others.

D U P Meet Next Thursday Evening

The Daughters of Utah Pioneers local camp will meet Thursday November 30 at 8 p.m. at Bertha Mitchells home. Hostesses will be Mrs Mitchell Alice Haycock and Eva Bennett. The lesson to be given is Pioneer Undertakers Sex tons and Cemeteries led by Roberta B Rowley. A topic by a daughter of Mabel W Hanks will be discussed highlighting pioneer women’s work.

Paragonah marine missing in the South Pacific

Claude D Adams, a Paragonah native and Marine Corps member, is reported missing in action in the South Pacific. A Salt Lake City family relay provided the notice on Thanksgiving night, noting his Marine service after earlier enlistment following a June 1943 draft. He trained at San Diego and had recently served in the Pacific theater.

PHS Graduate Admitted to L D S Missionary Fraternity

Prove-Orion L Lamoreaux, agronomy major and Parowan High School graduate, was initiated into the Delta Phi L D S missionary fraternity at Brigham Young University in the Joseph Smith Building. The ceremony, directed by J Wyley Sessions, was followed by a Sunday banquet honoring new members who may be called into military service.

Taxes Delinquent Notice Sets November Deadline

An advertised notice warns that taxes are due at the county treasurer’s office and will become delinquent if unpaid by Thursday noon November 30. Delinquent taxes will incur penalties and all unpaid property taxes will be advertised for sale in the Iron County Record. Also notes Thanksgiving travels of the Worthen, Burton, Rowley, and Wilcock families to Kanosh and Panguitch.

West Ward Surpasses Era Drive Quota

The West Ward Mutual Improvement Association reports its second straight year of meeting its Improvement Era subscription quota. This year the ward aimed for sixty two and sold sixty four by last evening. Credit is given to Era Directors Leila Evans for the Young Ladies and Carl Crawford for the Young Men for the drive's success.

Paul Adams Shot in Pheasant Hunt Accident

In Milliard County Chronicle clipping from Delta report Paul M. Adams was accidentally shot during pheasant hunting. Pellets injured his face and arm with eight to twelve shots described. he received medical care and recovered without permanent injury. A second clipping notes Navy enlistments and successful physicals for Joseph Stubbs and Ralph Orton awaiting training call.

Diamond Jubilee Observances By Young Ladies Mutual

Officers of the Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Associations announce special programs to mark the organization’s 75th birthday. The L M I A was started by President Brigham Young about seventy five years ago with seven members and now covers every Ward and branch with thousands. The Young Ladies division begins celebration this Sunday at 3 p.m. in Sacrament meetings and again Tuesday at 8 p.m. in M I A meetings.

Two Cedar Men Die On Different Battle Fronts

Cedar City mourns as two men die in World War II. Chadwick Dalley Fife, 20, was killed October 26 in action in Germany after serving since July 1943. Dean H. Nelson, 22, of Cedar City, fell November 3 in the Philippines, as reported by twin brother Sgt Don H. Nelson. Both graduates of Cedar High School served in the South Pacific and European theaters, leaving families and many siblings.

Soldiers Wives Club Alters Meeting Schedule

Norma Hulet announces changes to the Service Mens Wives club meetings. They will be held semi monthly on Wednesdays with the next on December 6 at 8 30 p.m. at Colleen B Clack's home. Heywood Named Dixie National Forest Assistant Supervisor

Leland D. Heywood, longtime forest officer from Panguitch, has been named assistant supervisor of the Dixie National Forest, with headquarters in Cedar City. The posting follows the La Sal merger with the United National Forest and reflects consolidations aimed at efficiency. Parker Park takes over Powell duties and moves to Ashley. both assignments align with regional forest reorganizations announced by Regional Forester W. B. Rice.

Fenton and Joseph File for School Board Post

Two Parowan citizens compete for the school board seat from Precinct No 2 Parowan City. R L Fenton, a drug store owner and livestockman, filed two weeks ago, and Arthur Joseph, a local merchant and former mayor, filed late last week or early this. The election is set for Wednesday December 6 at the County Courthouse with voting for those who voted in the recent general election. The poll opens for that purpose Lim Tam to T7p on that day.

Car of Frank Decker Found in Moab After Theft

Frank Decker of this city reported his Chevrolet, stolen from in front of his home last Thursday night, located in Moab Ultah. A sheriff message said the car was abandoned after the motor failed for lack of fuel. Two Marines were detained for questioning, but no definite suspect named.
