Parowan gears up for the Iron County Fair with rodeo and race events at Parowan and a Monday Labor Day parade themed The Second 100 Years led by A C Hatch. Miss Iron County coronation tops the Friday program, with Heywood orchestra and talent fund, plus dances, alumni reunion, and a 5 30 p.m. barbecue at Vermillion Castle Camp.
Walt Taylor requests the return of worn items found at the Parowan Schools during summer clean-up. The list includes 21 caps coats overshoes and other clothing. Parents whose children lost these items may claim them by calling Mr. Taylor.
Local couples and families milled through over the week visiting relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs Gates Burt traveled to Los Angeles to see Hugh Burt. Marilyn Warner vacationed in Provo and Salt Lake City while Dorothy Rowley returned from New Jersey with her family.
Mrs H Dunton and her son David were weekend guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Basil Gilger. Mrs Dunton returned home on Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Nephi Christensen attended a visit at the E Ray Lyman residence last week. The Christien eis reside in Ithaca New York.
Mr and Mrs Jed A Riding of Salt Lake visited Tuesday to take Mrs Ridings father Ed mund Stevens home. Stevens recently fell and hurt his back and, due to advanced age, is not well. He will stay with his son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Alfred Wilcock.
Mr and Mrs Frank Mortenson and Mr and Mrs Lynn Mortenson traveled to St George on Monday to visit Dixies people Mr and Mrs Alfred Capenter.
Word of the birth of a new baby boy to Mr and Mrs Marvin Skougard was received here. The baby arrived at a hospital in Boulder City. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lorin Skougard of Parowan and Mr and Mrs Lamar Worthen of Panguitch.
Mr and Mrs Vance of Tempe Arizona are guests of Mr and Mrs Arch Benson during a visit that highlights friendly hospitality and local social ties.
Mrs. Ada Bennett of Brookings Oregon is visiting relatives and friends here at present. She arrived with her sister Mrs Cliff Halterman who spent a couple of weeks visiting in Oregon.
Visiting church authorities from the council and welfare committee attended the Parowan Stake quarterly conference on August 24 25. Howard D Knight conducted the general sessions in the 3 Ward Chapel with several extemporaneous speakers and a primary song dedication. Changes were announced in the MIA leadership including new bishops and home missionaries president replacements.
Parowan High School announces class registration on Tuesday September 3 with seniors 9 to 11 Juniors 11 to 1 Sophomores 1 30 to 3 and Freshmen 3 to 4 on that day. September 4 9 to 10 grades 7 to 12 assembly then 10 to 11 7th and 8th grade registration and classes begin. Fees listed: 10 dollars plus 50 cents locker and towel for PE. 4 dollars plus 5 cents towel locker for 7th and 8th grades. Mr and Mrs Nils Bayles and two children visiting with Mr and Mrs Golden Bayles.
Bryce Adams was elected president of the Parowan Valley Businessman's Association at a Thursday meeting, succeeding Arthur Joseph. John H. Pendleton was named secretary, succeeding Boyd Mitchell. Members urged the city marshal to curb arrests for minor traffic violations on Main Street to protect tourist business and planned a resolution to inform the City Council.
About 100 mothers and daughters joined an event on Wednesday August 20 at Parowan Five Mile. Sponsored by the MIA, the day began with a Flag Raising at 7 15 am followed by breakfast a nature hike sports and games and a campfire program. Leone Rasmussen La Vell Adams and Karla Hulet led the effort as ward representatives.
A nominating committee selected officer candidates for Parowan High School Alumni Association. Gold ticket includes Heber Gurr Watson Adams Marleen Burton Marie Munford Georgia Stowe Myrna Mitchell Spencer Lemmon. Blue ticket lists Wi Boardman Kendall Gurr Frankie Lou Bentley Greta Wood Ralph Edwards Shirley Mercer Fred Topham. Election held during the annual homecoming at the Iron County Fair this month.
Mr and Mrs Loring Orton announce the engagement of their daughter Miss Lor en Orton to Brent J Lovell son of Mr and Mrs Marvin Lovell of Oak City Utah The couple plan a September 21 wedding at the bride’s home followed by a reception at the First Second Ward Chapel Attending includes Mrs Jerry Nelson matron of honor and bridesmaids Marie Adams Marilyn Warner Pauline Lovell LuCinda Smith Brent served in the U S Air Force and attended Dixie Junior College and CSU
Norma Lee Mercer 18 and Helen Jean Dalton 17 compete for Miss Iron County title in final Friday at CSU Fieldhouse. Other entrants include Coyda Porter 17, Cora Lee Gibson 18, Rose Ann Moyle 17, Norma Reeves 22, Carolyn Dalley 17 from Cedar City Enoch Beryl Kanarraville Summit.
The Parowan Valley Busi nessman's Association resolution protesting the city marshal's traffic enforcement and harsh treatment of teens led the council to table the measure until the Sept 9 meeting. The record also notes a vacant Justice of the Peace post, hydroelectric committee duties, and plans to support a teen canteen with lights, water, and $100, supervised by the school.
Three daughters and their families visit Edgar Benson this week. Kathleen Rose and her daughter Linda of West Covina California join Ora Davis of Palos Verdes California and Iva Shook with daughter Vivkie of Anaheim California.
A3 c Scott Haycock returns to civilian life on furlough from Kesler Air Force Base in Mississippi for 30 days before reporting to duty in French Morocco North Africa. The official resolution was signed indicating the formal leave and reassignment details.
