Parowan City Council faced a protest from about 80 property owners led by Mrs. Alice Husbands against a gravel crusher on city property near the south entrance. Officials cited cost of moving gravel plus oiling streets, promised dust control, site cleanup, and no dumping while noting potential flood water catchment benefits.
Thales Brown and three Age Chapter members Dean Robinson Alan Stubbs and Rereric Lister depart Saturday August 17 for Fort Collins Colorado to attend the American Institute of Cooperation at Colorado State University. They earned second place in the State Award for two years accomplishments and will travel by chartered bus with boys from across the state returning August 22.
Mr and Mrs Lynn Durhin and seven children from San reside at the home of Mr and Mrs Hugh L Adams, indicating a multiple family living arrangement or visiting guests in the household.
William Gurt family members announce a reunion on August 31 at 10 a.m. at Old Rock Church with a business meeting, followed by a lawn lunch at First Second Ward Church. Suspects include Neph Swapp of Kanab and Betty Lowe’s first-time grandmother event on Aug 10 as Ronald Ward and Mary Ella Ward welcome Teresa Ann in Beaver. Ken Ward of Beaver is noted as paternal grandfather. Paul Orton family from Henderson Nevada vacationing in Milford, with Joseph Orton visiting his mother Eula la Orton.
Mr and Mrs Darwin Taylor of Casper Wyoming are visiting here with the Clayton Taylors. The brief note indicates a family visit and local association, highlighting names and origin without additional detail.
Mrs Dan Crawford submitted to a cataract operation on her eye Monday at a Salt Lake hospital. The procedure was reported successful and she is said to be fine by family members.
Mr and Mrs Meeks Dalton return home after aiding in the care of a newborn granddaughter named Georgene born July 22 to George D and Diane Merkley. The Daltons visited Loyed and Arold and families in Murray and daughter May Barrick of Provo.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Dalton and their children stayed a couple of days then planned a vacation at Yellowstone Park joining Ed ward and Loyd and families for a trip.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Orth are in Salt Lake City for a few days of business and leisure. Estelle's sister Nell Jones from Kanab is staying to oversee the drug store while the Ortens are away.
Dr. Clifford A. Pace of Las Vegas visits the home of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Orton. Another guest is Rosemary Dunham from San Francisco California. She is a guest of Mrs. Orton.
Mr and Mrs G R Matheson of Pomona California were brief visitors at the Twenty Orton home.
Jane Rae Fuller of La Verkin visited during the week with Mrs. Amelia Topham and Eulala Orton, joining a brief social gathering and calling on local acquaintances.
Mr and Mrs Neils Decker and their son visit Ber Nice Rebecca Miller and the Duane Decker family for a gathering.
Mr and Mrs Howard Pritchard and family of Pomona California are visiting the Sidney Pritchards at present.
Rebecca and Carlo Jo Terry young daughters of Dr and Mrs Carlson Terry of St George won the Midvale Harvest Days Talent Quest over 34 contestants from Utah Colorado and Idaho for a Calypso song and dance routine. The event sponsored by Midvale Kiwanis Club aired on Eugene Gile nick’s Utah Talent Quest. Ted Mack of the Original Hour MC’d the show and the sisters will appear on the Ted Mack show in New York soon. They are grandchildren of Mr and Mrs W Clair Rowley of Parowan.
Funeral services for Anna T. Adams 72 were held in Parowan with Woodrow Adams of the second ward bishopric conducting. Born April 17 1885 in Parowan she taught history and social science in Utah schools and retired in 1946. She was active in community affairs and served as American Legion Auxiliary president.
The local coordinating council urges church, civic, and school groups to submit events for a unified community calendar. The calendar will be published weekly in the Times to minimize conflicts. Mrs Clair Hulet chairs the council through year end, with Clinton Thornton, A Hills Orton, and Mrs Max Hendrickson on the committee.
Parowan Stake President Howard D. Knight announced the Stake Quarterly Conference will be held Saturday and Sunday August 24 and 25. General authorities are expected to attend including Elder Marion G. Romney. A Welfare meeting is at 6 30 p m Saturday with leadership at 8 p m in the First Second Ward. General sessions are 10 a m and 2 p m Sunday in the Parowan Third Ward. Mia sessions at 7 30 p m in the ord Ward.
Bryce Adams traveled to Salt Lake City during the week on a business trip to meet contacts, discuss plans, and visit key locations related to his company’s operations.
The Iron County Commission met on Monday to handle routine matters. They discussed continuing efforts for free TV if feasible and legal hurdles are cleared. A $100 scholarship for the Miss Iron County winner was proposed, to be held until the winner can attend college. The commission also talked with state alcohol officials about a potential Cedar City home for alcoholics and leasing or selling the old Woodbury home near the county hospital. Delegations presented road and other requests.
J Perry Egan announced three personnel changes in Utahs Fish and Game Department. M J Madsen becomes chief of River Basin Studies, Don Andriano is acting chief of fisheries division, and Hal Peterson is superintendent of the Whiterocks Fish Hatchery. Madsen will coordinate with state and federal agencies and private firms on water storage and development projects to protect and create fishing waters and wildlife values amid planned Utah water projects.
County Commissioner Jess Guymon announced plans to oil an extra strip in Parowan Canyon this fall. Union Construction Co. will perform the work from the end of the current road through Cussoms Canyon to above Skunk Hollow. The State Road Commission aims to survey Bear Flat this fall and award a contract next summer for further construction, hindered by a shortage of engineers.
Survivors include two brothers Hugh L. Adams and Albert E. Adams of Parowan and two sisters Eva Adams of Parowan and LaVerde A. Dodge of Susanville California.
Thomas Davenport 74 lifelong Parowan resident died Monday August 12 from a liver ailment. Born November 6 1883 in Parowan to John and Ellen Miller Davenport he was active in the LDS Church serving as Sun day School counselor and High Priest. He worked with the Forest Service Union Pacific Rail road and was employed at the Iron County Rest Home at his death. He married Pearl Clark October 29 1919 in Farmington Utah their marriage later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Surviving widow four daughters 11 grandchildren one brother and three sisters. Funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon.
John V. Benson is home on furlough from the army after completing basic training at Fort Ord California.
