Major Owen R. Allred, an Army air forces pilot and former Merrill’s Marauders commander, is feared dead after a training plane reportedly plunged into Long Island Sound near midnight Saturday. Mitchell Field crews scour the waters for wreckage while Allred’s wife in New Jersey awaits word. he studied electrical engineering at Rutgers while on detached duty from Maxwell Field. Born July 28, 1919 in Roosevelt Utah, he lived in Parowan, Utah, and graduated high school there in 1939 with honors.
