County Board Advances Right of Way and County Orders

County commissioners instructed the County Clerk to secure right of way for a road project from Cedar City area. They discussed farm access needs, notified terms of office for several members, and authorized purchases for county needs. Canning Center Begins Operation At Patowan

The WPA canning center opens at Patowan with weekly pre harvest feeding sessions. It will receive canned goods and beans, tomatoes, and other produce donated by parents from Porowan and Paragon Avo. Patrons may donate time or funds to support the project and school uses benefit from market-price credits.

City Tree Replacement Project Starts Saturday

The W P A sponsored by Farowan City begins replacing old ficus and other unsightly trees with small hardwoods. Five hundred twelve trees will be removed citywide and replaced by elm white ash black walnut and thornless honeylocust. Foreman Cletford Evans leads workers paid by the government with local funds covering other costs.

Husband of former Parowan girl killed in motorcycle crash

Clair Le Hirecht of Rockville 22, husband of Gail Lyman, died when his motorcycle missed a canyon bridge and plunged over an embankment on the Zion Park highway near the Park Museum. Death stated as broken neck. Funeral in Nathville with family attendance. Survived by wife, infant, parents, four brothers, two sisters, and three grandparents.

Funeral Attendees Remember Mrs Little in Delta

Mrs Esther E. Orton and family attended the funeral of Mrs Almera W Little in Delta last Sunday. Maggie Page of this city and Mrs Rebecca Smith of Summit joined mourners from St George and other areas. Little, who died August 19 in Provo, had lived in St George the past years for health reasons. She was a daughter of Joel Hills and Margaret Threlkeld Johnson. Survived by husband Charles Leo Little and a large family. Also her sister and two brothers Hreklal Johnson of Blanding and John S Johnson of Trople Utah. One marriage license issued this week: Eric Seavall, 28, and Katherine Crawford, 40, both of San Francisco.

Race meet program announced for Iron County Fair days

Committee announces the three day race meet in Iron County in connection with the fair on September 16 17 and 18. Purse money ranges from 25 to 80 with no entry fees for horses. The total purse for the three days is about 698.00 dollars. Races include free for all allowances breeders futurity iron county horses by Remount Sire and several sprint and mile events across all days.

Elementary teachers camp at Duck Creek near Navajo Lake

A three day encampment for Iron County elementary teachers is planned at Duck Creek near Navajo Lake. The event aims to boost morale with living, studying and activities together. A cook, beds, specialists, hikes, and nature study are arranged. Participants include Mrs Campbell, Miss Hardman, Lorin Wheelwright and others.

Garner Takes Students to FFA Convention

Mr. Ray B D Garner agricultural instructor at the local high school led ten boys from the Ag department home from Logan after attending the FFA convention. Participants included Kenyon Robinson Nathan Denson Reed Orton LaMont Macfarlane Carlyle Hulet Carlyle Mitchell Lynn Benson Parowan Orion Lamoreaux Paragonah and others. The group judged cattle poultry and beef show categories and ranked well in dairy and meat judging among 40 plus state schools.

Parowan weighs in on street weed cleanup campaign

Parowan City starts a weed removal drive Wednesday under M Ly Skougaan with four mowing teams and one rake crew. High School Opening Postponed For Week

The Board of Education postpones junior and senior high school start by one week to Sept 13 to aid harvest work. Elementary school begins Sept 7 with all-day sessions. Some grades may offer half-day croplima for another week if pea fields need labor. Other county schools start Sept 7.

Iron County Fair Premium List Ready for Distribution

The premium list for the Iron County Fair to be held Sept. 16 to 18 will be ready for distribution within days. About 1500 copies are printed and will be mailed or handed out. The plan is to place one in every home to inform residents of exhibits, prizes, and how to enter. County Chair Mrs. Bida Rowley Whittaker and her children are visiting Hatton and Millard County relatives for three weeks.
