State Sportsmens Outing at Fishlake Next Week

The Utah State Sportsmens Association plans its annual outing at Fishlake on August 28 and 29 with representatives from clubs statewide. A Saturday meeting at 2 pm in Skougaard's Tavern will discuss fish and game resources, featuring speakers Fisk and State Game Commissioner Newell B. Cook. The event includes round-table discussions to work out club issues and a two-day trap shoot for participants, with fishing as the main recreation.

Desert Range Field Day Invites Stockmen and Ranchers

Plans announced for the recone annual field day to be held September 3 and 4 about 50 miles west of Milford Utah. The event, organized by the Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station with Utah State Agricultural College and University of Nevada extension services, will showcase four years of range management experiments and feature an evening program at the branch station. Directors Dailey, Bailey, and station chiefs will explain the studies, with field tours supervised by Dr. George Stewart and Selar B. Hughes. The field day aims to help cattle and sheep owners sustain thrifty herds through winter, reflecting discoveries since 1922 on desert range conditions in western Utah.

San Diego Co Starts Picking Peas Here

San Diego County begins pea harvest with Aliouk 200 workers and 3 in charge of operations at the San Diego Producer Company. The firm has 155 acres of peas in the valley and 90 more in Milford valley. Harvest is expected to be good with frost delay unlikely. Payroll amid operations is projected at 4900 to 5000 dollars this week, plus farmer proceeds from pea sales.

Utah merit examinations set for September 13 14

Announcement from Salt Lake City states the Utah merit examination system for the unemployment compensation division will hold three parts with a written test experience and interview. Examinations for advisers take place September 13 and for stenographers September 14 in multiple Utah cities. Applications must be received by August 28. A Citizens Committee will review results and exams will create a merit register with hires from the top three.

Seminary Cornerstone Laid Today in Parowan

The cornerstone ceremony for the new Seminary building in Parowan will begin at 6:90 o clock with Parowan Wards participating. Bishop Thomas W. Jones will offer the dedicatory prayer followed by an evening program at the recreation hall with stunts games and dancing. Refreshments will be sold to support the project as the old building is remodeled and the new brick construction rises on lower Main Street.

Piano Students to Give Recital Next Thursday

Piano students under the WPA Recreation Project directed by Frank Van Cott and Misobeth Lyman will present a recital on Thursday, August 26 at 3 15 pm at West Ward Church. Admission is free. The program features a list of student pieces led by harp and piano selections with names including Jetta Orton and Joy Whitney among performers.

Ice storage on Guer Farm yields quick loss of supply

On Guer Farm Peter H. Gurr built a large ice pit last winter to store peas for Pangulteh by the Pacific Produce Co. The 1606 ton contract melted away in about two weeks, leaving only waste. the pit froze with packed snow and ice turned to a solid mass. Mr. Vance Gudmundsen has been visiting for several days.

The Parowan Stake Conference will be held August 24 at the Cedar First Ward Chapel. The program includes Relient Society officers, ward officers, teachers and members with meetings at 2 p.m. and sessions including MIA, general questions, and 4 p.m. AM I L management to attend.

Sunset Service at Vermilion Castle Forest Camp

Sunday evening August 22 at 7 o'clock the Mt T A of both wards join for a street service at Vermilion Castle Forest Camp. A York good program is arranged and a large attendance is desired. Trucks leave the library at 5 o'clock to take those who wish to go. A charge of the transportation will be made. Following this program the forest service will give a free picture show. University funds available for NYA aid students

Final arrangements in place at the University of Utah for federal NYA aid to needy students wishing to attend. Applicants must be 16 to 25, maintain good scholastic averages, prove financial need, and obtain three citizen endorsements. Applications due September 15 in the Deans’ offices, with transcripts required for freshmen and transfer students.

Irresponsible Pickers Discharged By Growers

Pacific Producers and local growers moved to discharge or stop employing many local pickers, mostly children, citing careless work and poor dependability. A community committee visited pea fields and found evidence of skipped rows and late picking, risking crop quality. Growers emphasized need for reliable labor, noting outside pickers are available while local youths require supervision and training. Mr Moy Morris of Beaver visited Parowana this week.
