Hidway Carnival Set for Iron County Fair Dates

The Hidway Carnival from Milway Salt Lake City will visit the Iron County Fair on September 16 17 and 18 featuring rides games and dances. The program includes the Idris wheel merry go round and famous games plus a dance with Milt Taggert and his Victim Herding orchestra. The carnival will be staged at the vacant corner by the bunk beside N L Gitt Bayne and dances may be held in the high school gymnasium depending on weather. A drama is planned for one or two nights at the high school auditorium with cast members including Ait pdama Winston dite Tr Wulet and others. Twenty new tables will be set up at the race track for the horse show with purses totaling 995 00 across the three days. No admission fee is planned.

Field Representative Discusses Farm Compliance Program

A. G. Kilturn, state field representative for AAA, met with the County Agricultural Conservation Association supervisors at the County A M's office to instruct local farmers on compliance methods. Wilburn discussed product administration and office procedures. he urged continuity of the mapping program through September 30 and noted map work this year will extend into next year. Approximately $29,090 was paid to operators and range men last year. funds are needed to complete Tapplog this year, with 16 weeks to comply before the program ends.

Judges Chosen for County Fair Exhibits

Iron County Fair Committee announces Ray D. Garner as chairman and Rulon Dixon and Edward Davies named judges for livestock crops and related exhibits. Judging set for Sept 16, with livestock at Sheep Barn and other departments at designated halls and buildings.

Utah State Fair set to run September 25 through October 2

The Utah State Fair will open September 25 and run through October 2, marking the 57th exhibit. Entries from across Utah and beyond fill space requests, with premiums totaling about 25000 dollars. Rodeo, grandstand shows, music daily, and extensive displays from agriculture livestock manufacturers and 4-H FFA groups are planned for a memorable 1937 exposition.

Canning Project Seeks Produce for School Lunches

Officers of the PTA canning project request residents of Payowax and Paragonah to donate fruit and vegetables for school lunches this winter. Bring items or notify Mrs A C Sateh or Mable Pendleton in Parowan on Wednesdays, or Mrs Dena Williamson or Mrs Ethel Robb in Paragonah on Fridays. Parowan residents will deliver produce to the Parowan canning center. helpers include the American Legion Auxiliary. More produce is still needed.

Judge Sentences Two To State Penitentiary

Judge Will Hoye of the Fifth Judicial District sentences Roy Vinton and Slonry J. Mallett to terms of 1 to 20 years after guilty pleas on felony charges. Both are remanded to county custody for transport to the state penitentiary. Other cases include Verne Applegate discharged and Max Bowen ordered to report for open terms. American Legion Post Installs New Officers

On Monday evening August 6 the Parowan Post No 20 American Legion installed its new officers at a social in Relief Society rooms. District leaders H D Johns R Noble Day and John R Adams attended to conduct the installation. Edward W Ward was named Post Commander as William T Orton was unable to act despite being elected earlier.

W P A Canning Center Opens in Patowan School

The W P A Canning Center in Straw County began operation this week in the Patowan school building. Eligible families under Social Security Public Welfare and W B A markets may use the center but must supply their own cans and produce. Equipment is free but users must contact Mable Pendleton and then the county welfare office for a canning slip. Few have used the center so far. welfare officials urge use before it is too late. Community members Elwood Mortensen and J Harold Mitchett Jett are noted in local visits and travels to Safford Arizona for school and farming interests.

Two mapping crews survey county farms under AAA program

The Soll Conservation Association mapping crews led by Arnall Y Stevens and Les Sargent have mapped 95 quarter sections of farm and 19 more than 15,000 acres in the county as of September 1. They completed about 175 farms. The mapping continues through at least September 30 and is expected to extend into next year due to funding gaps.

Adult Art Class to Start Next Tuesday

Mrs. LaPreal Ward announces an adult art class will commence during the coming winter’s work. Interested participants are asked to meet in the school house art room next Tuesday between 2 and 6 o’clock in the afternoon.

Women of County Urged to Enter Fair Exhibits

The Thame Economic committee calls on county women to exhibit their handicrafts and home work at the County Fair in Parowan on September 16 1713. Exhibits should be at the womens building September 14 to avoid last minute rush. District committeewomen will receive entries September 14 between 9 pm and 6 pm.

May Trimmer Weds Hoy From St George

A quiet wedding last Friday evening united David W. Hogers of St George and May S Trimmer of this city. Bishop Will L Adams performed the ceremony at the bride’s grandparents home in the presence of family. The couple planned a short honeymoon to Southern California before settling in St George where the groom is employed.

Welfare Board Approves 41 Old Age Assistances

At a regular meeting of the county welfare board chaired by Samuel F. Leighty, forty-one seniors over sixty five were approved for old age assistance. Monthly grants range from 10 to 30 dollars per person, or 60 dollars for eligible couples, with income deductions. Total current recipients in the county reach about 186, funded by federal, state, and county appropriations.
