County Fair Premium List Substantial Prize Support

County fair premium booklet sees extensive contributions from local firms and individuals from Ogden and Los angeles area towns. Businesses and citizens donated merchandise and cash prizes to expand space for listings and ads, with many acknowledgments planned in county papers.

Trout Dinner Brings Members Together at Hotel Luncheon

Members met at the hotel noon for a trout dinner where each guest enjoyed a fish allotment. About twenty members attended with a one pound trout per person from the reservoir. Business topics included membership, city street cleanup, and plans to assist growers with labor and jobs. Committees were formed with Pen, Decker, and Weight named to pursue member interests and city cooperation.

Dairy Firm Plans Move Into Meat Market

Southern Utah Dairy Co. directors, elected last week, approved installing a meat market next to existing refrigeration facilities. Remodeling starts next week to offer fresh meat and other stock, plus a hardware line for farmers. Stockholders supported the addition at the annual meeting.

Relief MIA Conference Set for August 28 29

The Parowan Stake Church hosts the Relief Society and MIA convention with general board members arriving from Salt Lake City. The program spans Saturday and Sunday with multiple meetings including executive boards, advisory councils, stake and ward board sessions, and a general conference. County 4-H Clays Hold Outing at Duck Creek

Iron County 4-H clubs under County Agent L B Tucker held an outing Thursday at the Duck Creek Forest Camp with about 160 attendees including 45 from here and 62 from Paragonah. D P Murray, state leader of 4-H club work, attended. The day featured trucks travel, games, pranks, and an evening program before groups headed home, with some arriving after midnight and others early next morning. Relatives from Salt Lake City, Anna and Ros Adame, were present.

Forest Road Improvements and School Board Actions Report

Forest supervisor Bettensen announces $8,500 in forest road funds for Varowan Canyon upgrades this season. About $2,500 will double track the main canyon to Vernil ton Castle including a new bridge. $6,000 targets the Bowery road. Work to start soon after new equipment arrives, beginning on the Bowery upper end to allow better access later. Fire danger rises with hot dry weather as small fires spark, mostly extinguished without damage. Separately, county education changes include resignations and new appointments: Wallace Osbourn named PE director at Cedar City Junior High. Dorothy Smith to same school. Fish culturist studies streams on Dixie Forest

Mr M Madven fish culturist from the Bureau of Fisheries spends days in Dixie Forest studying stream temperatures food supply carrying capacity and other factors to guide future plantings. He highlights Duck Creek for its potential with favorable temperatures and abundant food and notes two small reservoirs aid fishing value. Forest supervisor Tet htnsen reports an 17 inch plus fish caught recently boosting enthusiasm for stream development.

Garfield County Fair and Race Meet Planned

Garfield County hosts a three day fair and race meet September 2 3 and 4 sponsored by the Pangultch Lions Club. Garfield County Agent directs exhibits including a 4 10 club exhibit. James Sargent leads boxing wrestling and dancing with a large local crowd anticipated. Visitors Mr and Mrs Rasph Adamo travel from California en route East on a vacation tour.

Entertainment Prepared for Iron County Fate Days

Varied entertainment is being organized for the Iron County Fate ding with three days of home racing at the city track one or two fights a play and big dances each night. A racing program of five good races with generous purses and possibly no entrance fees is planned by chair Dalton. A fights committee led by Merrill Q. Mitchell includes May Adams and Howard Linford assembling a headlining card. rematches are sought Dean Nelson vs Arcadi Pearce and Vert Kelsey vs Cal Andeus. A local play by Will L. Adams and Winston Orion is set for one night, dances on the tennis court with Mantila Serenaders, lighting by Parowan City, and the orchestra promises to fit its schedule with the fair.

Quiet Beaver wedding ties Jean Matheron to Henry Bulloch

Miss Jean Matheron and Mr Henry Bulloch united in marriage Friday evening in Beaver County. The ceremony was conducted by Bishop Wm A Miller in Beaver County Clerk’s office. Honeymoon at the Bulloch ranch on Cedar Mountain where the groom raises livestock. Mrs Bulloch will return to work after vacation. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs D A Matheson and a Parowan High School graduate who has served as deputy County Treasurer for Iron County. The groom is a Cedar City resident from H W Bulloch family and active in livestock trade.

Pre-school Clinic Held Here Next Thursday

The Iron County Board of Education and Parowta PTA sponsor a pre-school clinic in the West Ward church basement on Thursday morning Aug 19 from 9 a m to noon. Doctors Macfarlane Snow Prestwich and Burton are expected. each family may choose a physician. The goal is to ensure every child is in normal health for school this fall with exams and immunizations offered free of charge. Parents will be contacted to complete permanent school health cards and confirm immunizations. Pea harvest labor reaches near 200 in Parowan Valley

About 200 pickers are employed in Parowan Valley fields owned by Santa and Tore, with nearly 250 locals and Paragonah residents among them. Transients from Idaho add to the workforce, wages average around two dollars daily, and activity centers on hauling peas to Cedar City and loading trains. The San Diego Co. plans to begin next week, needing about 200 more workers, while local visitors from Spokane and Utah retreat after summer visits and park trips.
