Parowan residents and relatives are noted visiting Salt Lake City and Southern Utah parks during a busy week. Families including Mickelsons, Ortons, Thortons, and Smith descendants share health, birthday, and travel updates amid local reunions and church planning efforts. A Beetetken bone epidemic affects several children, with injuries reported from lawn mower accidents and a truck fall.
The Centennial History Committee and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Parowan sponsor Pioneer relics at the county fair. The exhibit will be in the DUP relic hall with staff present during all open hours. Local residents are invited to bring treasured possessions for display.
Gustive C. Larson authors PRELUDE TO THE KINGDOM MORMON DESERET CONQUEST to mark Utah's 100th anniversary. Marshall Jones Co publishes in Francestown NH. Larson, director of the LDS Institute at Cedar City, presents an objective Mormon narrative focusing on immigration via the Perpetual Emigrating Fund. Foreword by Dr. John A. Widtsoe noted.
Parowan High School F F A boys led by Mr Thales Brown depart Sunday for Salt Lake City to join the State F F A Convention during Centennial Week. The Southern District team of Niles Bayles Orland Evans and Gene Benson will contest poultry judging. Transportation is arranged and additional Ag students entering the field are invited to join for the weeklong trip.
John P. Manning instructor at Parowan schools joins more than 125 delegates at the third annual music clinic at Brigham Young University in Provo. Manning, a Cedar City resident, plays clarinet in the college band and attends the summer session. The event features 16 musical experts from across the nation focusing on high school music and seeks to improve teaching and performance methods for intermountain groups.

Parowan planning officials urge citizen involvement to create a master plan, zoning rules, and recreation and land use studies. The proposal emphasizes local self funding, community groups, and seeking advice from county and state agencies to guide long term development. The plan targets land use maps, subdivision rules, road plans, public buildings needs, and progressive recreation projects.
John W. Hyde planning engineer from Ann Arbor and J B Carlos of Utah Centennial Commission visited Iron County communities last week urging formation of a county or district planning body alongside municipal groups. At a Parowan meeting with city officials, Chamber of Commerce and others they urged practical, low cost planning covering schools, civic centers, property needs, residential and industrial zones. They toured Parowan streets praising progress and offering tips to beautify the city including cemetery landscaping and perpetual care.
The Iron County Centennial Committee met Monday in Cedar City to finalize plans for the county wide celebration. Events include Parowan fairs and rodeos on Sept 6 to 9, Cedar City livestock show on Sept 9 to 14, with a county Old Folks Day for residents 65 and older to be announced.
Members of the Parowan Literary Club and partners met at 5-Mile Camp for a Get-together dinner and campfire social with Fae N Benson Iona Top ham and Dixie Ward overseeing arrangements. A separate quorum gathering at Vermillion Castle featured members from Parowan Wards and Paragonah. reminders issued for September meeting.

Aug 18 Ab Jenkins aims to set auto speed records up to 24 hours at Bonneville Salt Flats. Davis County Days run Aug 20 30 in Kaysville plus Centennial Celebrations at Deseret and Delta Aug 21 23. Tremonton hosts Box Elder County Fair Aug 21 23 while a Brooklyn Dodgers Chicago Rockets game occurs Aug 23 at Ute Stadium.
